HI- Just checking in to see if I can post yet. I got banned from Locost NA for making too many off-topic posts although I felt they were interesting and some related to the build, such as lithium ion batteries weighing 3 lbs that put out 500 cold cranking amps., I should think it would be interesting to racers that take laxatives to get lighter for a race. LLOL Anyway, nothing much was happening there anyhow.
About my build: I am "currently" wiring a CMC book Locost with a 1988 Toyota 4A-GE coupled to a 5-speed 1984 Corolla geartbox and rear end with a shortened portion of it's driveshaft. My spindles and front discs are 73 Mustang 2, rack from Starlett, column and switching arms from Tercel. Wheels 1971 Celica, BMW fuel pump. I am using the standard Lotus 7 FRP front fender copies and extended boat trailer rear fenders. My seats are $10.99 replacement tractor seats from Atwood's farm and ranch supply. They are molded vinyl on molded foam with no metal frames. They shoehorn in nicely in the 17 and 15-1/2" spaces available. A 2" thick vinyl-covered pad is velcro'd above the seats to fill the gap to the top of the seat back bulkhead. The seats are inverted to utilize the squarish shape of it for the top portion. The driver's seat has an adjustable ramp under the front 8-1/2" to elevate it under my thighs as required. It is held in place by the grooves in the floormats, which are grooved conveyor belting.
I smoke tested my wiring and discovered I had apparently changed the things that used to work and got discouragd by the complex mess I created. I removed the cowl from the firewall and dashboard and am snipping and starting over. I HATE it. :x
I see some familiar names like Hempy (snort, giggle, poke, poke) and I suspect there are others as well.

+1 for the above comment--your post is far too relevant to be allowed in Off Topic. :D

But seriously, we do have an <Introduce yourself to our forum members!> thread in Off Topic, you don't need to start a whole new thread to introduce yourself--starting an unnecessary new thread bumps every other thread down a space, and you can imagine how clogged we'd get if everybody felt they needed their own thread to say "Hi, it's me!"

Also you should read <LocostUSA PUBLIC FORUM Guide lines....> in Announcements, and while you're there, read <PLEASE READ: The value of good titles on LocostUSA.com>. "New kid on the block" doesn't tell us much.

> I got banned from Locost NA for making too many off-topic posts...

We have the advantage of an Off Topic forum, and LocostNA has all its posts blended together, so I can see why...

> although I felt they were interesting and some related to the build

...since everybody thinks their OT posts are interesting, LocostNA needs to keep everybody on track. They've got 58,000 messages and no indexing; give 'em a break.

I'm just a member here, I'm not the Posting Police, so put an imaginary IMO in my advice, but I think, 1pineapple, you should...

A) Put an informative introduction in <Introduce yourself to our forum members!>, or at least put some basics in your profile (like where you're located).

B) Start a build log in <Build Logs>

And C, do stay on topic in the non-Off-Topic forums; Locost_North_America did ask nice before they banned you. :)

 Thanks, I will. Both groups have their customs, and I do think there's considerable overlap in membership, but the assassins here tend to be more devoted to building than are any of the other west-of-the-pond Locost groups. Your info on your build was of general interest here and I'm sure you'll fit right in if you care to...and of course if you'd read the READ THIS stuff for newcomers I wouldn't have bothered reading it to you.

And regarding cheapracer's "His post is on topic in the off topic threads section, ban him. " comment, I'm pretty sure that was tongue in cheek.

PS--I haven't assassinated anybody on LNA for years. I'm one of the guys who drifted away when LNA turned into a soapbox for political opinions. But I checked in to LNA today, and I see they're clearing it out and getting back on task.

After participating for years over at Yahoo LNA, I left in disgust a few months ago. Perhaps some will remember that around 2006-2007 I posted a ton over there, and even participated in writing a Wiki. There were rules for the group, customs, courtesies. Some chose not to follow those rules and customs, then they got into a swearing war over being called on it. Sadly, the moderators had long ago left, and no one enforced the rules.

So if people want to post off-topic here, and the stuff passes muster by our very active moderators, then fine. I'll be over on one of the actual build sites.

I do wish you a nice day as well.

Well it was a welcoming joke, a play on your post - sometimes it's more obvious to me than others though (note Mr Green after my comment!)....

I agree. If you don't have at least a rudimentary sense of humor, you probably ought to stay off the Internet.

Basically my skin is thick as a turtle shell. 8) It is just that I have nothing to report, Presently I am sorting out my 56 Matchless G-80. First the carb was lean so I raised the needle and then found crap in the main jet so it ran great all the way up until the damned brake shoes delaminated from the rear castings, so as soon as that is fixed I can start pulling the front strut on the Probe to replace the upper mount plate. I did feel a bit surprised from Jack's comments, but it's not that important. I am to the point that nobody can say or do anything that will magically repair the awful mess of my wiring. I will just have to tough it through and I do still have a handful of good friends that can tolerate me from the LNA bunch I can get advice from if needed.

Your welcome here and I don't think Jack intended to say anything otherwise. We have over 10,000 threads now and it doesn't make things easier to find if you want to learn something. So it's just a gentle request to think about stuff like topic titles and where stuff gets posted. Jack has made that comment plenty of times recently in other places and to other people, so there is nothing personal about it and it is just a desire for everyone to be able to get the most out of this place.

Have fun here. Start a thread on your Matchless and show us some pictures and tell us about it. Not in the kit build forum though :)

Cheers,

Good to have you back, 1pineapple.

Whew, I feel a lot better. My skin is as thick as a newt shell, and I feared cheapracer and I had driven you off . The "Gee the same bunch of assissins I found in LNA" comment had me concerned that we'd rubbed you the wrong way (I checked urbandictionary.com and everything, wondering if it was a hip contraction of "assist" and "assassin" before concluding it was a typo).
1pineapple wrote:

It's important to me, because if I quit surprising people, the magazines will stop paying me to write stories for them. :)

If I was out of line advising you, it wasn't meant to be a put-down. I assumed you hadn't read that stuff I mentioned, but if you had and simply prefer to do things your own way, I can see where I probably came off as domineering, and I apologize.

I'll be reading about your build with interest, even if I have to dig a little to find where it's posted. I'll search for the phrase "Toyota Corolla CMC build log" and now that I've typed it here, this thread will pop right up.
