I'm fed up with GoDaddy and am looking for someone else to host my website but rather than just searching blindly I was wondering if any of you have a hosting company that you like and has done well by you for a long time?

GoDaddy has merged with someone else and has begun nickle and diming me plus their email hasn't been stable and I keep getting messages when I open my mail program it says that it can't verify the identity of the server because the "certificate for this server is invalid" which doesn't give me confidence.

I also would like a hosting company that can furnish email marketing programs. I'm not a fan of Constant Contact or the Chimp.

Unfortunately I just renewed my web name with them for 9 more years yesterday. I'm presuming that transfers.

I'm a big fan of Lunar Pages. They've been hosting my sites for 13 years without issue.

Thanx, I'll check them out.

In still trying to work out my email issues with GD (I think they have appropriate initials) I just found out that ICANN says I can't transfer my registration for 60 days after a renewal. That sucks big time.

I'm grandfathered into a shared hosting deal with site5, their old "$5 Deal x3" promotion.

165,000MB storage, 5000GB bandwidth, I just can't use it for file storage/backup.
My photo gallery is nearly all publicly accessible, so I don't have to worry much.
It does the job for my sites, and I don't think I'll hit the caps any time soon.

It looks like their hostbasic plan may be a good option for a single site now , and I may switch plans next renewal cycle to the hostpro or hostpro turbo.

I've been with them since 2007, and never had any issues.

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

I used 1&1 for my guide service and fishing forum. It was great for a long time but the month I exceeded the basic storage the costs ballooned out of control.

Very stable hosting though with no unplanned outages while I was using them

Good things are not happening in the web hosting industry. Sorry to hear about GoDaddy. Yahop, one of the biggest, went through a similar change in management a couple of months ago and now they suck. I used them for about 8 years. They were reliable if not especially cheap. Now they're just not especially cheap.

What's happening?

I have found out that I truly am stuck for 60 days. If only I hadn't reupped my domain name, I didn't have to do it till April.

Lunar pages are definitely in the running, but gosh everyone's service is absolutely awful. You can't even ask a question. None of the accounts you mentioned even exist any more. I have no idea how much storage or bandwidth I need since that data isn't available from GoDaddy so this makes it hard to pick a plan.

GoDaddy restricts me to only one email account that is allowed to receive large files (35mb-50 mb) and that is also the only account that can have a large number of emails. I need all accounts to be able to send/receive that size file because that's the nature of the beast in mortgages. The physical files are huge so they beget large email files to send them.

All I get are canned responses from my questions and an attempt to upset me.

Anyone know the skinny on the new cloud hosting? The support people don't even know what they are good for.

I think you are going to find that you don't own your domain name.

I'm guessing that GoDaddy registered it and rents it to you.

You will have to buy it from GoDaddy.

I hope I am wrong.

I own my own domain, it is registered in Germany (on purpose).

My hosting is provided by Pair.net. Pair is directly connected to the big pipes in multiple ways so their service is super reliable.

You run your own mail server or use theirs.

I would use a separate company for any email marketing so when you get black listed you don't loose non-marketing email capabilities.

What is wrong with constant contact?

I'm not sending massive amounts of email, I simply have very large email attachments.

And Constant Contact then sells your email list and your people begin to get lots of spam.

If you have a true Opt-In mailing list Pair would not be a problem.

I don't need any sort of mailing list. All I need is to have the ability to move large files for work

I don't believe Pair has any file size limits.
