Starting June 1st, and June 6th, for FedEx and UPS, The additional handling fee of $10.50 for oversized packages will now apply to packages over 48", instead of the 60"+ it was previously.

Bad news for those of us who regularly order big crap.

Well...cussy darn. They already have their rapacious "dimensional weight" thing going for them, when's it gonna end?

Is that 48" on the longest edge?

"Rapacious." Can I have the origin of the word, please?

Had to look that one up. Good one, Jack.

Me too. Whodda thunk that I come to this site to get my daily English lessons? The origin is not at all what I expected. I was sort of disappointed really:

Latin 1645-55; < Latin rapāci- (stem of rapāx greedy, akin to rapere to seize; see rape1) + -ous

Gee... Not nearly as "juicy" as it first sounds... Either we're dirty old men (distinct possibility) or perhaps we harbor the same feeling about the prices one pays to send stuff via shippers... I'll go with choice "C", BOTH!

UPS and Fed/Ex are protected by the fact that the only option is worse. Corrupt Teamster (sorry redundancy) forced laws mean that the US is alone in the world by regulations of shipping by charts of content, the logic of which escapes rational analysis.

For example, when black out headlight covers (and headlight covers in clear as well) were a thing, GTS (GT Styling) had an issue that they had shipped them as residential skylights, saving about 80% on their freight bill, rather than pay to have the "tarriff" on headlight covers reduced in the charts used by LTL (less than a load) trucking firms.
Which worked in a sense, except when they reached the border to Canada there was issue with marking them so blatantly incorrectly.

So UPS operates due to corruption of the freight industry- probably quintupling its volume and profit.
