Or perhaps they were celebrating the production 53,000 Model 3's in the third quarter, finishing off with 5,300 in the final week of the quarter. I swear I could hear your huzzas here in Eastern Indiana.

Tesla tells our Gov. Org. that they do not know how many cars they have made.
Now suddenly they brag that 53,000 more are completed?
Ahh hah, now about those production numbers and the phasing out of their subsidy/buyers kick-back?

Well, what about them? They've tripped the wire that starts the beginning of the end of the subsidies. How can that process be stopped?

My point is that Tesla should have reached that threshold last year.
But they claimed they did not know how many cars they have produced in order to keep the gravy train rolling a while longer.
Now they are bragging about high production numbers to satisfy stockholders who demand that, and to reassure the stock market that they will meet stated production goals.
The conflict is clear, and amusing!

Dude, it's California! Chillax and smoke some more weed; it'll all work out!

Elon Musk has style, but he and Tesla keep bringing up memories of John DeLorean and his company, its financial eccentricities with stock and government money, and its eventual crash due to... well, at least weed is legal in the PRDC.

Yah, Cali.
There seems to some uncertainty as to whatever really happened to Geraldine Elizabeth Carmichael of Twentieth Century Motor Car Company infamy.
Google has LOTS of history on that debacle.
Maybe Musk is actually Geraldine, the Tesla operation sure has a similar history, particularly their early days.
Sure Tesla has actually produced some running cars, but they did it on Fed money.
Poor Geraldine had to scam private investors out of million$.

Just like every other major auto manufacturer.

My relocation is nearly complete.
NOT the shop space I would have chosen if it were not literally the only one in town.
Now squeezing into a meager 1200' shop, about a third of what I am used to and no three-phase. :(
If I can get the mill, lathe and engraving machine off the trailer and through the low seven and a half foot door without damage I will count myself lucky.
Going to have to get Mom's XJ6 back together and out ASAP!
Started to rebuild the rear brakes and axle a couple of years ago. :BH:

Was pondering the other day...

There are a lot of companies that have never built a car before, but have decades of experiences in building things like washing machines, etc. They know electric motors, controls, and (this is one of Tesla's shortcomings) how to build stuff on a very slim profit.

If the builders don't need to know anything about internal combustion engines (and their emissions) or transmissions, won't more non-auto companies think about giving it a go?

Full disclosure -- GE Appliance has a huge factory in my neighborhood, and has huge amounts of vacant floor space sitting gathering dust....

BTW, I lost my home in the Michigan recession that started in 2001 and ultimately took out almost all of my customers, etc etc. I feel your pain.

Semi-success!
Made it over the mountain with a very much overloaded trailer full of top-heavy machine tools without breaking anything.
Cost me $100.00 for a guy to lift them off the trailer, too bad he was not better at placing them where they needed to go.
So tomorrow I will play at being super-human to manually put the vertical mill and air compressor in their proper locations. :!:
