NO! The clutch would not be happy released.

The issue is trans lubrication. Most modern motorcycle transmissions are pressure lubricated.

You WILL need to drop the driveshaft to flat tow.

As an aside, I remember as a kid being puzzled why a car that was being flat-towed by an RV had smoke coming out the tail pipe. It wasn't until years later I realized the owner had very likely left it in gear, and was back-driving the engine to probably about 8000 rpm...

Separate story: I flat-towed my mid-engine car which uses a FWD drivetrain and even though it was in neutral, the transmission housing was fairly warm at the end of a 20-mile tow.

I think this is a case of me not listening to what I don't want to hear.. It seems I need to accept that the driveshaft needs to be unbolted to safely flat tow.. not a huge deal- it would just be nice if it weren't the case.. I don't want to cook my transmission because I'm being lazy-- easy enough to just undo the u-joint/shaft and flop it off to the side while in transit..
