NO! The clutch would not be happy released. The issue is trans lubrication. Most modern motorcycle transmissions are pressure lubricated. You WILL need to drop the driveshaft to flat tow. |

As an aside, I remember as a kid being puzzled why a car that was being flat-towed by an RV had smoke coming out the tail pipe. It wasn't until years later I realized the owner had very likely left it in gear, and was back-driving the engine to probably about 8000 rpm... Separate story: I flat-towed my mid-engine car which uses a FWD drivetrain and even though it was in neutral, the transmission housing was fairly warm at the end of a 20-mile tow. |

I think this is a case of me not listening to what I don't want to hear.. It seems I need to accept that the driveshaft needs to be unbolted to safely flat tow.. not a huge deal- it would just be nice if it weren't the case.. I don't want to cook my transmission because I'm being lazy-- easy enough to just undo the u-joint/shaft and flop it off to the side while in transit.. --ccrunner |
