Anybody have a link to a "HOW TO" remove unnecessary things in the Yamaha R1 harness ?
I have a 2001 R1 and need to build the harness for the car.
Thanks Randy

All you need is the bike harness, the bike parts you will be keeping, and the right schematic.
You might consider plugging in the spaghetti unmodded to ensure it runs properly as-is before routing in the car and cutting out bits.

Not a bad idea if you don't have to spend time extending wires to get from point A to point B. I don't know if bikes have things like emergency flashers or different gauges or ???? that you might want implemented in your car. The more you stray way from just having the functions that were built into the bike, the less this advice applies IMO.

Thanks guys.

So I will have two systems.
One for the motor and charging system and one for the chassis.
Chassis will be things like running lights ,turn signals, brake and maybe a fuel tank gauge.

Ideas ?

Even Chuck is entitled to have an opinion based on his experiences and I hope he is feeling better.

An oem steering column with a self-cancelling combination turn/hazard/wipe/etc switch will complicate the wiring but otherwise it is very basic.

When you do extend the bike wiring, use heavier gauge wire than the bike is using for the extensions.

I'll post some schematics but it would help to know what parts you want to use.

I had an 01 r1 motor and ran separate systems. It's way easier to run everything off the bike harness which I am currently working on with my 2010 r1 engine/harness. They sell a Haynes manual for the 01 r1 and it has excellent wiring diagrams. The service manual is downloadable on r1forums. I highly suggest you plug everything in as miatav8 suggested. Then you can slowly unravel and pull wires you are not using.

I capped wires I was not using and did not pull them. If you have questions about a specific wire or plug let me know I can probably help.

Here are basic headlight and fuel gauge circuits but there are many different ways to do it. The wire gauge is in general. The amp draw of the head lights used will determine what is actually needed for fuses, relays, toggles, etc. There are toggle switch specs too. They are not all the same even with the same number of positions. I just took a few minutes to draw this so it may not be "perfecshun".

Here is a turn and hazard circuit using just specific toggles, and an electronic flasher for consistent flash rate between turns and hazards.
