I was thinking along the lines of my sketch below, if the tool carrier was brought through to the outside it could be powered with either hydraulic or a simple cantilever system from both sides . This would leave top and bottom clear for both folder and crop.

That's an interesting idea bob. I suppose you could have an arbor press style system with a rack/pinion that are mounted on both side plates and linked through a chain or the like. If you wanted to power it hydraulically then I think you would need a double acting ram acting through a cantilever or bellcrank to maintain clearance for both sides.

It might be easier to consider simply having the tool face swappable. Basically, it would be like a standard press brake but with the v-block and bending die bolted on, which you could remove and bolt on the crop anvil and edge. You would probably have to be careful about aligning them perfectly but it would be doable.
