So with the upgraded cams my motor has, I need to have adjustable cam gears to get them in timing. And it is my nature to want to make my own. But I want to do so by saving some time.

So, I plan to machine out the center and drill holes for stainless PEM Studs. Then have an aluminum center lasered out then finish the machine work on it myself.

I have a Bridgeport mill mill and a lathe to get the job done. And I work at a place where I can get the aluminum section lasered for free. The press in PEM Studs I already have as well. So I can have an adjustable set of cam gears for zero cost, if I do this right

Is there any reason my design is a bad idea? I welcome ANY type of information here. I'm a rotary guy. And making piston engine parts is somewhat new to me.

I attached a few Jpegs of the design. (I'm a Mechanical Designer by trade. Former Machinist. Former Welder)

1st is the Aluminum Center
2nd is the Modified Stock Cam Gear
3rd is the stock Cam gear untouched

Your center section looks a little thin but other than that I think it'll work fine. Might want to do all steel and do a few larger lightening holes rather than many small ones just due to the number of cycles that gear will see.

I'm running a Vernier cam gear on my Sprite and it a nearly identical concept. Works just fine.
