I should have mentioned if you are making your slapper(s) and covering the slapper it with leather, you need to soak the leather in water for 10 to 15 minutes. Then install the leather strip. When the leather dries, the leather will be really nice and tight.

Dave, thanks for the additional tip. I was wondering if wetting the leather would help, but hadn't read anything about doing that. So now the flappers are dis-assembled, sealer has been put on the wood and the leather is soaking.
