Found the Miata 6-speed ratios online,
so I entered them into the Tremec gearing calculator;
looks like I was wrong that the rear axle ratio (3.27) is too long
here is the ratios & speed at 2500 rpm / 5500 rpm engine speed:

1st - 3.76 - 17/37 mph
2nd - 2.27 - 28/61 mph
3rd - 1.65 - 39/85 mph
4th - 1.26 - 50/111 mph
5th - 1.00 - 64/140 mph
6th - 0.84 - 76/167 mph

first is still a short "loading it up into the trailer" one ,
but I do like the low rpm's in 6th @ highway cruising speed
what do you guys think ?

I have a Mazda 5speed that is on a 3.27 rear end. I actually like it. It’s nice for highway cruising and seems to push the car pretty well in the lower gears. My 5th is your 6th.
This is a cool duild by the way. I have always liked these open wheel racers. This would be a riot to drive around.

I have made the firm decision that good ratios are whatever suits you and your driving style. My car has the Ford Ranger M5R1. Decent ratios, suits my normal driving style of reving the engine to about 3,000 under light load, then shifting. Last week I was copilot while it was driven by my son. 45 y.o., learned to drive in a Fiesta, didn't own an automatic until he "married" it in his early twenties. His style is rev to 2200-2400 under high load, shift and skip 4th gear. BTW, he drives faster than I do.

I told him his driving style would work well with 2nd gear starts, so he tried it. He used the same shifting points, used a tad more clutch, but overall, he was happy.

He too, thinks the tranny is fine. But he said that about the old TK5 with a 50% drop from 1st to 2nd.

All I can say is go figure.

:?: Hello all you locost people
This is my first post\question:
Is there any frame drawings for a Austin 7 special? Like the red one pictured ?
Im working on a Ford model A\T speedster right now but hopefully will be done "soon".
I then want to start on a Locost build of some sort.
I have been lurking on this site for awhile and like what I see.
THANK YOU for all your info ! now and in the future.
