New / never used GM 3.8 bell housing as used in the Stalkers supercharged 3.8 engine package. "Friendly" price from a Chevy Dealer was $150 plus tax. Price $100 + freight. Interested? Call Monte @ 559-269-4900, Fresno California.

For those using v6-60 engines, such as the 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4L v6, the application appears to be mid-80s S-10 T5. Note passenger side starter only, so use the rwd block. There may be a boss on the fwd block for drilling to accept a rwd pax side starter. The rwd motors were frequently drilled to accept the fwd starter for use in fieros.

Thanks for the additional information. Nice to know it fits more than just the 3.8. I researched the application through the Brunton Stalker folks. They were kind enough to identify the part number used for their 3.8 supercharged Stalker. Nice folks! I had a bunch of 3.8 research in the files but dumped it when deciding to move on to the 4.3. Seemed to be a stout motor for the locost application, as evidenced by the Stalker series...
Cheers,
M

Just out of curiosity, what do the Stalker people do for the 3.4 (95 Camaro) V6's drive belt? Once you remove the PS and AC, you have an alternator stuck high in the sky on the front passenger side. I know that Brunton moved 'em down to the low passenger side, but at that point the drive belt (in its most obvious configuration) drives the water pump backwards I think.

I'm also looking at an "internal" hydraulic throwout bearing instead of the external slave cylinder -- would buy me a bit of room where it really counts, near the driver's feet.

Not sure what they use, but earlier camaros and pickups have cw rotation pumps, in long and short versions (different hubs). The difference between the two is in the (pulley grooved or smooth) and the timing cover, and the timing cover must match the pan (bolts or no bolts through cover).

Also earlier cw versions have an air pump on a sliding mount on the right side. Also, fieros have an aluminum alternator mount low on the right side and a cw timing cover.

Also, the fwd motors have both cw and ccw covers.

On the clutch, another option is to extend the fork an inch or so with a clevis, to engage a pull slave mounted next to the engine, forward of the bell.

Any v6-60 should be fun in a car under 2000 lbs.

In my 3.4 I used a water pump from an X11 citation.

FYI:

Timing covers, cw rwd, ccw rwd, cw fwd, ccw fwd.

I expect the impellers have straight blades. If so, it doesn't matter which way the pump is turned.

I'm using a hydraulic throw-out bearing (4.3 V6 / Muncie 4 spd) and I concur, it is a good solution to space challenged projects.... I found a couple of used Tilton T-Bearings w/ braided lines at a swap meet ($75). Depending on which one you find, a little fabrication may be necessary to bolt the bearing mount to the nose of the trans, but it is all good if you take your time.....

This is how I did my belt arrangement, it has worked out fine so far.
I used the external slave cylinder because I want easy access in case of a failure.
I agree the fitting does want to intrude toward the foot well tunnel, but all I did was removed the front seal and re-indexed the front tab by cutting a new slot and that moved the fitting out of the way so that it does not intrude into the foot well.

Thank you for that pic. I note that you must've reversed the water pump if you used a Camaro engine?

And where did you get your alternator mounts? Just fabbed em up?

Attached is a picture I shameless lifted from a Brunton Stalker build site, showing how Brunton is doing it. IT wouldn't require a new water pump / timing cover + water pump, but it DOES require a somewhat mysterious belt tensioner (as in, I can't find another like it and I wish someone would give me a part number?!?!) I hear that their alternator is a Brunton-buyer only item too?

PS -- And all of this is moot if I can't get that dam... er, danged harmonic balancer off!

Here is another photo showing the alternator mount with the upper support in place.
It is made out of a mounting bracket I found lying in the dirt at Pick A Part, so I have no idea what it was off originally, I cut the end portion off and a made a bracket to attach it to the head.
The alternator is just a one wire 100 amp chrome hot rod one, cost me around 90 bucks, but seems to work well.
My engine is actually a 3.4 crate motor, I went with the X11 Citation water pump because I just wanted to keep it simple as possible, at least for me.
My bottom alternator bracket is just a home made bracket that I mounted to screw in studs into the block.
I used the studs so that I could shim the alternator to line up the belt as needed.
Ironically the screw in studs are the straight section of the U clamps that originally came with my Ford Explorer axle.
