Help,

Does anyone know if Curtis is still making fenders?

I have emailed, and left several messages with no luck.

Are they still around?

Yes you can get the rear fenders from Jack but not the front fenders.

I got the wide clamshells from them a few months back. I had to remind them once on the fenders and once to send a bill, but they were very pleasant to deal with it just requires a little patience. Quality of the fenders was good. There were some complaints on the list a few years back but I'm guessing the expectations were too high.

Hey Y'all. Has anbody got any photos of clamshells installed, and know the contact info for suppliers. What do you have to deal with width wise to come up with something that works. i.e. if I'm building a 442 using the stock track width of a second gen miata (nb) is this something where I would be asking for an extra width clamshell fender ? What frame accomodations do you need to allow for if you use clamshells ? Any info appreciated. THX, Skidzzz

This is a "book" chassis, with "widened" clamshells from Curtis. The track width is Corolla GT-S.

Thanks for the quick response Skinny G. Funny, I have always enjoyed your posts and seeing your car in the videos and photos. I think I looked thru your build if I remember right. Great car, glad to hear of your adventures in it. I have always planned to go with cycle fenders, but lately thinking of a more historic look. My Dad had a Bandini Siluro and it had some pretty cool fenders. I think if I could install the clamshells, I could probably swap them out for cycle fenders occasionally if I wanted to. Do you have to make any frame accomodations for mounting them differently than for the other type? Any full side photos? Skidzzz

I made no frame modifications to fit the fenders, although it is probably important to note that the scuttle area has been moved back 3" - which might provide more length for the fenders to fit than a true "book" chassis.

I still get rocks in the seats and occasionally the face. My pockets fill up with wee pebbles. I can't imagine cycle fenders. The clamshells disperse a LOT of water - you'll probably stay much drier with clams rather than with cycles.

New chassis is on hold for a bit. Gotta get another project out of the way.

I have a Curtis Unlimited parts page on my web site...it's there as a public service, I'm not compensated for it.

Also there's a pic of a Curtis Clamshell equipped Locost on my splash page...
http://kineticvehicles.com/
...and if you click that pic and scroll down to the end of the page that comes up, you can see a couple more shots of same.

Not one to resurrect a thread from the dead lightly, but there are lots of pics of the Curtis Clamshell front fenders around, but can anyone show me a set of their cycle fenders?

I'm a little confused with the descriptions of them with different dimensions for top and bottom.

I'm getting ready to buy fenders all around, but without seeing them, it's a hard sell!

Thanks!
