You've seen that mechanical dog the Army wants to use as a pack animal. I saw some early DARPA films where a technician is pushing sideways against the dog harder and harder. The dog maintains his balance no matter what. Then the tech releases his grip and the dog keeps leaning into the tech who then falls over on his ass with the mechanical dog in his lap, still twitching. His lab coat is torn and his glasses are all askew and the tech can be heard saying, "I think we need a little more signal in the feedback".
There's a cartoon of this all over DARPA.

A friend of mine ( who is a nutter ) went on one of those how to pull wheelies on a motorbike course. They have some kind of soft cut on the engine that kicks in when the bike gets to a certain angle . It may be worth looking at whatever system they use.

Learn how a power steering valve works. It produces proportional effort either direction. then adapt a power steering unit with a pendulum.

If we put a weight on the bottom of the steering wheel of a car with power steering, will the car always go straight?

Hey that is a great idea horizenjob.

The details of a power steering unit have not yet gotten into my brain, but some study will help.
