Apparently I don't get to watch it in Canada. I have the science channel, but can't find anything other than the regular How it's Made. I wonder if it's on netflix?

There are three episodes listed one after the other in my area for Thursday night. The Caterham half hour episode is the number three show here and starts at 10PM Pacific time. Try checking the 10PM hour in your local schedule. Also, sometimes these networks have shows on their websites available for streaming after the program is aired on the network proper. It's worth checking anyway.

There was a pretty good show on Velocity last night. Some crew was down in Argentina looking at a shop that hand builds nearly perfect Bugatti Type 35 tribute cars.

Was the shop in Argentina "Pur Sang"? Leno does a bit on them, if its the same company.

I think a lot of 1st time builders would benefit from seeing the minute that they spent when rolling the aluminum around the back corners. I do not recall anyone here mentioning using tallow and soap when forming theirs. I know I didn't. Maybe Perry (Horchoha), who is on his 3rd build, might use this technique and comment on how much better/worse it is. Otherwise, not very detailed in info but definitely entertaining.

I didn't use tallow, but I did anneal mine.

Sharpie marker burns off at annealing temp, doesn't leave goo behind.

guys with oxy-acetylene outfits will soot up a panel, then burn off the soot.

the show was ok .

yes I did say you should anneal aluminum to make if more pliable .
the soap does the same as the acetylene by adding carbon to the aluminum .
it's just a different method .
that is why you burn the soap until it's black (carbon )

if you also watched the guy doing the roll you will see he is also pushing the aluminum with the hammer as he is striking it .
this is done by hitting it with the hammer with side blows instead of straight in the panel .

I like when they said they were tig welding when it was clear the welder was a mig .

The editing was poor, jumping from half way through the engine build to the dashboard then to the aluminum paneling, but I enjoyed it anyway. The panel bending was the highlight of the show from a Locost builder's point of view. They didn't say too much about the Suzuki powered version, which is too bad.

Did any of you watch the other half hour shows? I think the Alfa Romeo episode was best overall in terms of telling the actual story of the car, soon to arrive here stateside, by the way. I loved the part on the leather processing on the Pagani even though overall I think the car is just another fetish piece for rich guys.

I love to watch the how it's made shows I must have seen them all 2 or 3 times (this is all the old ones ).
the one with the alfa C4 was on before .

I tend to work on many lambo's in my shop the one with them repairing the carbon on the lambo's rocker was a good show .

I think most of the shows are ok not great but ok .
they seam to get things wrong as the narrating for the auto shows are not done by a car fan .
with the wheels on the 7 they said it's a 3 stage paint job . NO it's not ! they do 3 steps . primer then single stage black then cut the lip to bare aluminum .
a 3 stage paint job is a candy or pearl finish . there is a 1st base color then a pearl or candy base color sprayed over that 1st base then it's clear coated . 3 stages .

the morgan 3 wheeler show is on next week at the same time . it's another new show I will have to watch .

Im not sure if you guys are aware that arch motors builds the frames for caterham and has a few good pics on this website .http://www.mycaterham.com/4613.html, they also build the At-om frames too.click on galleries and the arch motors pics are there.

that is very common to have a chassis builder build the chassis .
for a small car CO to buy all the machinery ,tooling , use there shop space , and to deal with all the over head to have a run a chassis shop . they would have to price the car so high no one would buy it or it would take some many years to sell the amount of cars to pay for the over head making it not worth the car CO to build chassis there selfs .
