I could use your help sourcing some decorative aluminum..

I'm working on a 63 Volvo 1800, and it has a cool retro vibe with the OEM aluminum dash veneer.. Trouble is, I'm going to change around the switches a bit, so I can't use the pre-drilled stock bits.. I really like the look, so I'd like to come as close as possible to replicating what Volvo did..

So, in your travels, have you ever tripped over a source for aluminum sheet that looks like this? It's very thin and malleable.. I'll swap my upper and lower faces if I can't get an exact match, but I'd like whatever I sub in to have a similar look..

thanks guys

Don't know where to get it but it was also used in some BMC products, if that offers any clues.

What you're looking for comes under the general category of "textured architectural metals" and there are a number of companies who handle them. A reference to one US-wide company with locations all over is included below. If you live near a big city, that city is likely to have at least one supplier who carries this type of product.

My suggestion would be to locate several and send them a photo similar to the one you've posted here. They may not be able to match it exactly, but probably have something similar. You'll likely have to buy a sheet, but some suppliers cut into half sheets or 1/4 sheets. There are several of these companies in the USA. I recently matched a pattern from the 1960's. They still produce it today!

Good luck,

Thanks guys :D

Used your exact language Lonnie, and came up with a great site- http://rigidized.com/samples.php

No exact matches (didn't think that was likely), but they have lots of cool choices.. I'll dig a bit more and see if I can buy direct or find a distributor..

Exactly what I needed.. thanks again

I'm a bit late... But... McMaster Carr might have something. A quickie search came up with this stuff:

Maybe?

you might want to try making your own using a woven mesh and stamping an aluminum sheet. Take a look at http://www.mcmaster.com/#steel-mesh/=11raqdt
This is what the mesh looks like:
