Can I get some measurements of the very back slopped panel on back of lotus 7's? Its the panel in front of spare tire and usually has a Taunt cover on it.
I have a very long term project and trying to make it look like an old 7.

When i look at pictures sides and back look about same size as tire dia.? Say 25" my rear tires are 27" and my back panel is 27 just looks so big?
Wont let me load a picture i will get one tomorrow

I think the proportions look 'off' mostly because the rear tire sits a foot or so further rearward relative to the structural elements you're visually referencing.

For the angle of the back panel, google <lotus seven drawing> and put a protractor to a side view. Other than the straight-up-and-down back panel, I think you're capturing the look and feel quite nicely.

Where's you get the front fenders? I recognize the rears, of course.

Here is a couple more pictures. I am hopping with some rounded edges a side scoop maybe look a little better?

Langan, you might consider sloping the top surface of the rear deck (hood?) downward towards the rear, at least the portion aft of the valve cover. "Real" sevens have some slope in the rear deck and coupled with a non-vertical rear panel it tends to "lighten" the looks of the tail section.

Great looking project. Are you in California enjoying the rain or up north?

In a real 7, aren't we supposed to be sitting pretty much on top of the rear axle and between the rear tires?

Langan, I'm with seattletom, if we are talking about the same thing. The back looks too much like a pick-up truck. If you cut the line from the roll bar brace intersection down to the tail light, it will add the slope and lighten it visually. It is something I missed on mine.

Though always hesitant to answer the question "does this dress make my a$$ look too fat?" here's a couple more thoughts:

Opening the wheel cutouts in the rear fenders should help lighten the look. If you're not ready to cut yet, just black out the to-be-removed part to visualize the effect.
Can you kick up the lower rail in the rear any to help reduce the rear panel height?
Add a large cutout to the rear pane and/or louvers to the rear deck? Could also help with engine and transaxle cooling.
The "refrigerator white" color of your mock-up panels may be exaggerating the impression of size. A darker color could help.

Try dropping the rear of the clamshells too.

Thanks all GREAT suggestions . If i can find a body thats close i would cut the chassis up to fit something with a roof.
