I guess this is the spot to ask? I got my MS2 setup with JimStim and everything working well but after plugging in to the car harness I can't connect to my PC.
I am using a USB daughter board and when I turn on the MS2 the computer makes a tone like when I plug in any device but continues to make that sound ever few seconds and will not connect in Tuner Studio or the computer itself.
Any ideas?

You might have a short circuit on the car harness causing the Megasquirt to shutdown and reboot constantly.
I'd suggest you unplug all the sensors injectors, coils and ancillaries from the harness and start from there to find the issue.
Also check that that there are sufficient battery voltage in the car.

Thank for the reply I will try to be methodical and test each wire. Low voltage may have been the problem and as that will be the easiest to fix when I get home this weekend I will check that first.

Secondary ignition noise can cause resets.
I battled with one for 6 months til the coil was moved from the firewall to the motor. Now it is rock solid.

Some USB adapters (even serial ports) may exibit ground loop issues if the computer shares the power source of the car being tuned.

Another thought is that the 5 volts (Vref) may be being pulled down and shutting down the MS.

Does it do it on a stimulator?

On the JimStim it seems to work perfectly. I think it may have been low voltage as I know the battery was low. When I get home friday night I will try again with a fully charged battery.

Get a "Battery Tender" leave it connected overnight at least to restore the battery.
If it will not pass a load test after 12hours on a tender you need a new battery.
I have 2 Battery Tenders and rotate them through all my idle junk monthly to keep the batteries fresh.

Messing around with flat or half flat batteries is a pain and can cause damage.

EFI doesnt tolerate a low battery well, voltage spikes and or noise will freak it out.

Especially avoid battery chargers with the "Boost" feature. The noise generated by this feature can trigger the injectors and fill the motor with fuel.

If the starter won't crank the motor without help you need to fix that first.

If you are wearing out the battery, jump it to a running car.
Use good heavy cables, I have a set made from welding lead.
I don't use them anymore after getting a Tender....

Spent the last few days trying to figure out why I was unable to burn fuel tables to the megasquirt. Just figured out my issue and decided I need to post this incase anyone is every looking for an answer.

If you are getting a crc burn error from tunerstudio when burning to a mspnp2 and you also have a Aim MXL Strada Dash connected through can bus try disconnecting the display and burning. In my case this instantly fixed the burn issue. There appears to be some interference over can bus that is causing an issue.

Hope this helps someone.

Well nothing is easy. I started checking on power and grounds and got nowhere I then decided to plug in the Jim Stim to get back to a working condition and no lights or connection. I pulled out the MS and started testing and found the only way I could get the MS to work was to temp ground the reset pin (JP1 pin 4) on the MS2 daughter board. I still can't connect to Tuner Studio. I thought my board was working great with JimStim but now I find the PC will not connect and with it plugged in or not the board only turns on if I ground the reset pin (JP1 pin 4) on the MS2 daughter board.
I am using a DLP-TXRX Internal USB / Serial Adapter that I installed without U6 and I did get the PC to connect last week.
I posted in the MSextra forum but any ideas?

Yes I will have to try the transistor for the start up problem.
I have installed the drivers though the computer connected last week. :?

Sounds like you fried something on the MS.
Check the megasquirt pcb for burned tracks.
Check the main pcb that you are getting power and ground at various placed on the board.

Among all the other suggestions, Since you talked to the MS earlier, make sure you use the same USB port on the computer that you used to connect before. Each USB port on the computer uses a different COM port assignment. TunerStudio will not talk to the MS without knowing the right COM port to talk to. Been there - done that - bought the T-shirt.

I checked the board for power at the test spots and everything looks ok. My PC has 4 USB ports and I have tried them all. I tried removing the jumpers going to the USB board from the main board together and one at a time and found even by grounding the reset pin the MS would not stay on. It must have something to do with the power going to the com section affecting the MS2 board. my next step is to try the transistor on the DLP - TXRX board.

Hi, I just got my 7 on the road running a ms3/3x, gsxr1000 itbs, on a duratec 2.3. I've been tuning in itb mode and the car is running fairly well. I'm struggling with getting accel enrichment to work smoothly but that I understand, what I'm unsure about is how to tune the spark tables. I see several people here are running duratecs...would any of you be willing to share their spark tables?
Thanks,
Justin

This would be a safe starting point

Image

Edit: Now that I think about it that table is for an automatic on dirt.

A stick on pavement will probably need a less aggressive table.
