This is for you dirt bike riders out there. The squeamish shouldn't watch.

Oh my, that does look painful. I feel for the guy... And the terrain didn't look all that crazy, seemed pretty wide open. Just hit a bad patch along the side of the road. Horrible feeling getting hurt like that then having to get on your bike and ride home. He's lucky he didn't lose an eye.

Lousy way to end the day

Guy I worked with did similar. Was fixing up his dirt-bike and test rode it w/o a helmet. Ended up dumping it and put a stick through his cheek. A trip to the hospital and some stitches and it was all good

Closest I've ever had was mountain biking. There was a branch over the trail that I ducked, but it had an offshoot that was pointed straight up to trail; I never saw it. Went between my temple and the padding of my helmet and jerked me off my bike. Just a bit of scuffing and a bruise but that's awfully close to the eye. Spent the next few minutes pulling wood bits out of my helmet.

Cheers,
Cory

PS: If ever in that circumstance, leave the object in. It blocks the bleeding and the ER can deal with it better than you.

Pffft, amateurs. Read and learn...

Where I work we have a lot of mountain bike riders. One day there was a real commotion in their department so I stopped in to ask what was going on. One of the guys was relating what happened to him the day before...

Riding down a hill he had fallen off and landed in a bush. Jumped up and hopped back on, finishing the ride - no problem. After he put his gear in the car he decided to take a pee before heading home, so headed into the restroom, where he discovered that his "boys" had some company... close company. When he landed on that bush, a stick punctured his Man Package and broke off (that was when all the commotion had started.) And he hadn't noticed, but fortunately neither of his boys were punctured, just their bag...

To this day I still salute him when we pass in the hallway...
