Course, back in the good old days, the cars had heavy gauge sheetmetal in the inside too. With little to no padding. Seat belts were just a wet dream in some auto safety engineers mind. And even when seatbelts became mandatory in new cars, nobody used 'em until decades later when wearing them became mandatory. My belief is that cars in general, in every aspect, are better than "The Good Olde Days".

Crumple zones vs a garden cart. .. Thats probably the best visual of a offset front impact I've ever seen. Waaaaay cool, even better than the old Volvo ads.

First time I saw that video I was expecting the 09 to look a lot worse but for the occupants to be much better off thanks to energy absorbing crumple zones.

I was shocked when the 59 ended up looking worse after the impact.
