Here is a cheap and dirty way to take videos of your drive.

What you need is a $40 HD keyfob camera, 8" of 3/4x1/8 aluminum, a $1.50 1-1/4" conduit hanger clamp, nut, bolt and washers,a bit of velcro and some adhesive backed rubber strips.

I designed to bracket to mount the camera at approximately driver eye level.
The camera is truly amazing. 40 minutes of true HD recording off the internal battery.
Forgot to mention that you also also need to buy a microSD memory card for the camera. It takes up to 32G.

will be bad. Over a long distance down, the camera is to move from vibration which rise over the rod. can move from side to side g forse in corner.
Better to screwed directly to the bracket.

Very cool. What is the focus like on the camera - does the focal length inhibit the image out in front of the car?

I took my first video the other day and I am quite pleased with the result. Here is a clip (switch to HD and full screen).

For some reason, the youtube clip is darker than the original file and I still have to fix the wrong date/time stamp problem. There's no audio on the clip so I guess I need to get the right audio codec for my video editing software.

The velcro mount is actually much better than bolting the camera down as the velcro absorbs some of the vibration and gives a steadier picture. The camera weighs half of nothing so G forces aren't going to move it off the velcro.

That's a very good image, especially considering the cost.

I followed Thumper's idea and am delighted. I found a $19.99 version, reportedly good for 1080p. So I bought 2 of them. :)
They have motion detect as an option to start recording. Found a couple of brackets as above (97c) from Home Depot.

I wanted a shot of the front suspension under simulated slalom conditions.

No comments on the facial expressions thankyou... :x

Thanks for sharing your idea Thumper. And nice car BTW

Apparently there are 12 variations of this little camera. I bought version 11 which is true 1080x720. Some of the other versions are lower resolution and some upconvert to 1080. It's all too complicated for me. All I know is the picture is great!

Very cool!

I ordered a small camera for constant car use. It attaches with suction cup to the glass, has an integral 2.5" screen that unfolds to immediately view what was recorded, has a larger diameter lens, and can be set to record over itself every 5-15 minutes, running constantly. Great to have to show an officer after an incident / accident. We have a lot of drivers who are over the centerline and hit other drivers mirrors, or simply harass to deal with personal problems. Usually in these instances, no fault can be assigned. It cost about $50.

I went with the MD80 clone from eBay instead of the keychain version. The roll bar mount is a piecie of wood bored to 1.5" and then sawed in half. The clip-in camera mount came with the camera along with several other methods of mounting and is screwed to the wood. Could have used JB Weld I guess. These cameras are so cheap it is unbelievable how they can make them for that and ship them half way around the world. I guess they are just cell phone chips repackaged.
