Trying to embed a youtube video in this site has been a challenge for many of us, myself included. Today, I found THE definitive answer. It was right there in front of me for all these years and I never knew it.

When trying to type a message, when I hover the mouse over the "youtube" button in our screen, it says it all.

It just doesn't add it all to our message body when clicking. I have found no way to copy/paste the pop-up. As soon as the curser leaves the button, it disappears. If you click on the button, the only thing that loads into the message body is the part

So the user is left having to type all the rest "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxx" between the ] and the [. xxxxxx is the unique serial number applied to the youtube video on their site. Copying the URL from the youtube site does not work, at least, not for me. If the message looks like the pop-up format, then it should work.

The important thing to remember is that the URL MUST be exactly in the format of

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxx .

If you want your video to actually work, there must be absolutely no deviation what so ever from this format.

 • won't work.
 • Copy/pasting the url straight from your browser won't work because youtube urls these days are .
 • Time codes in the URL ie: won't work.
 • Any other thing you can think of won't work either.

There is only one working format for a URL in the tags, if your video is not showing up it is because the format of the URL is wrong.

The easiest way to embed a working youtube video is to copy/paste the URL from the browser location/search bar and then delete the S from "https://". Then highlight the entire URL and push the "youtube" button that the OP mentions.

the big challenge/risk is making sure you're not in the https version of youtube.

I don't go there except in the secure mode

there's be a patch for php bb3 to allow secure youtube content to embed here.

I had it enabled in the kayak fishing forum that I used to own.

Let me try, using Youtube's instructions:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qzp8yqmQ8kA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Edit: Nope, that doesn't work (it does work on other forums).

Let's try this:
Edit: nope.

Next, the same link without the "s" in "https". That works(!) and is exactly as GregK said - no https allowed

We think the rear suspension bottomed out. Just finished putting in higher rate suspension springs.
