Finally! Something for you Locosters who just don't think a V8 is enough. No driveline required.

Cheers,

I used to autocross with a guy that owns a turbine repair shop. He was trying to talk me into a turbine from a helicopter for my locost for a bit. He said he could get me a rebuilt turbine and gearbox that had too many hours to fly for about $5000. 300-350 HP in a 150 lb package would be cool, but I don't think it would be that great in a light car where throttle response is important. He had a similar setup in a jet boat that he had built, but I think it was bigger and more powerful. Here's his company website.

Discovery channel did a couple shows on him when he built the turbine for the North American Eagle land speed car.

Boy, I'd hate to be driving a car with a turbine engine when it comes apart - you'd be perforated. [LOL]

Cheers,

Cheers,

But I think I'd love to experience it the thing hits its power band?

I always wanted to do something whacky with a radial engine. the sound is enough to get it done for me.

He'd probably get more of the rated power from that turbine if he bothered ducting air to the inlet...It's neat in a 15 year old mindest sort of way though.

I'd much rather build/drive something like this one though...
