I saw this the other AM in Portland, probably headed to PIR.

The funny part about it is, despite the sweet sounding monster engine, the driver had no idea what to do with all the torque as he kept popping the clutch and romping on the throttle while navigating the AM traffic. Looked like someone learning to drive a stick, some were so bad! Shoulda simply stuck it in 2nd or 3rd and left lots of room in front. Proof you can have a cool car and be a dork driver! Hope I fair better!!

So, anyone know what it is?? No badges I could see.

botbasher,

Maybe Jaguar? Puma? Some kinda cat car? The Back window reminds me of my Moms 1965 Baracuda.

Now that I can see it from the front, that looks kinda nice, but the tail is atrocious!!

To each his own though!

Thanks for the ID, The Converted!!

...And quite possibly one of the baddest-ass cars of ALL time!

It was a Shelby cobra with a truely aerodynamic body, that achieved a super-slick, even by todays sports car standards, drag coefficient of 0.29. So even though that tail might not be the most 'attractive' thing ever, it is a beautiful example of form-follows-function...Which makes it all the more appealing to me.

You guys should check out the show, "America's Greatest Race Car": http://vimeo.com/7955821

It's an hour long special about the development of the Daytona. Amazing how quick a VERY young Peter Brock and co. designed and built this thing to compete against Ferrari--something like 3 months. He also helped Factory Five get the design right when they decided to build a replica... The documentary Lots of cool racing footage and funny stories about the Shelby/Enzo rivalry. Well worth it!!

Botbasher--That might actually be Brock's car. It has WA plates and he lives near Seattle. If the car was heading south it could be on it's way to Monterey for the week's long festivities.

Well, I'm going to end the conjecture about what it is.

'The Converted' got me a foot in the door and with that I have it. It's a Superformance Daytona Coupe. See it here. As opposed to the other replica here Factory Five's have the gas filler on the wrong side, no 3rd brake light and no reverse lights. Take a look at the rear pics of the Superformance car and that's it, down to the single reverse light and the finished valance in the rear!

Now I just need to figure out the #122 ID and wrap it up!

And Ol_Rowdy... it may not be a chick magnet, but at least you won't be bouncing it all over the freeway scaring off the chickies!

Do I recall correctly that Brock wanted it to be about 6 inches longer than what they actually raced back then? I think in the 'gotta get to the track' fury they ended up with the standard Cobra wheelbase (I want to say 90")

So when Brock helped Superformance recreate it he insisted the nose be 6 inches longer than the "real" Daytona's are to reflect his original design. So in this case the replica is more authentic than the original!

(6 seems like a lot, maybe it was 4...)

Somebody snopes me... :)
