Sweet video.

Wonder if his front fender mounts also failed (in true Locost fashion) half way through the journey? :D

It is neat but like universal tools for multiple applications, it isn't a great car or powered chute. Range will be short unless a very large fuel tank is used, with a greater burn rate than a typical powered parachute pushing a lighter weight, 2-person trike. Take off and landing is into the wind, so that will usually have to be an open field.

That was interesting. Surprising seeing it tool thru the dirt like that. That was rougher then I would drive just about any street car thru.

I used to think the Spencer air car was cool, he was an interesting guy...

What I find interesting is that it's a 1320 lbs car powered by a Subaru 2.5L flat four that'll do 0-60 in under 4 seconds. AND that they will be selling a non-flying version of it to make it an even lighter car - a tandem 2-seat mid-engine space frame road rocket. It's almost a shame it's set up for off-roading rather than on-street performance.

So, who's going to put a 27' mast and a swamp boat fan on their Locost first? :D

I've always wondered if you could commute in an ultralight.
 and  at the guy guessing it'll be 20 seconds 0-60.

The soft wing flying car idea is not new of course.

This team designed and built one to follow the famous (Paris to) Dakar race but when the race was relocated to South America (but still called the Dakar???) the team flew London to Timbuktu instead. Some information can be found:
http://www.parajetautomotive.com/
And a YouTube video or three is found:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufs_NcBEkLk

I like this video as it shows that takeoff & landing is not simple. Notice the video edit cuts during landing attempts...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCwuMUeR ... ature=fvwp

Great toys if you can afford it but the takeoff area required is not as easy to find as many would think.
It is NOT a helicopter. You aren't gunna lift off on the road behind the traffic jam ahead

The time and space needed to set up the wing and get it inflated before the driver can begin the takeoff run...

At least a limited pilot license (sport pilot?) would be required so the driver understands flight rules once he leaves the ground.
Just like any power flight vehicle I believe.

I love flying and I love driving but I don't see a vehicle that does both well in anything I have seen yet.
And I certainly don't want drivers who don't even drive, taking to the air!
