Yeah, its hard to pass those big rigs in a continuous no passing zone. Even if you are on a crotch rocket doing 100 mph. I wonder how many of those fatalities were bikers.

They are big into this over here, they have restricted roads for heavy goods vehicles everywhere. There is little thought for the carbon footprint and costs which increases massively when these trucks have to divert for miles. I dont know this particular road and how long you would be stuck behind a truck for but surely a few pull in places for the trucks would be enough to clear the tailback behind.

The road in question is 318 turns (blind, hairpin, etc) over an 11 mile stretch of road through a national park that leads to nowhere in particular. The speed limit is 35mph, and even in a sports car it requires more than a leisurely pace to maintain that speed the whole time. The trucks being banned are unable to negotiate many of the turns at anything more than a crawl, and can even block the oncoming lane of traffic on this narrow two lane road with no pull off's large enough for them...Which is very dangerous for the oncoming cars unable to see the obstruction coming on a blind curve, especially for the enthusiasts that constitute the vast majority of traffic on this road.

Well put. I recall there being signs years ago banning long trucks. They should ban anything or anybody that can't/won't stay on it's/there side of the road around curves.

However, many people think it is a race track, not a public road. I don't think anybody wants people coming from all over the USA to drive recklessly in their subdivision.

Agreed to a point that there are people to drive it too aggressively/dangerously. Namely those who choose to cross the center line, especially around the blind turns, and those who end up sliding down the ravine and/or into the trees...Which are often one and the same. Muggles and enthusiasts are able to coexist peacefully on the road, provided all are willing to exercise some basic situational awareness and common courtesy. If I recall though, there are no actual crossroads or driveways along it, so it's far from bearing any similarities to a subdivision.

I believe we are on the same page.

As for subdivisions, I am referring to what most people live in and our behavior should be consistent. There are crossroads and people do live there. It ain't Vegas.

Just a few images of what used to happen on the dragon quite often. Hopefully the trucks avoid it like they are supposed to now.

Bob there simply isn't any room to build pull offs and as others have said sometimes the trucks stop traffic for quite some time as they try to get around a corner.

Not on the 11 mile stretch in question. No crossroads. No houses. No driveways.

I can see what you are all on about now from Chris`s post. That is pure lunacy. http://tailofthedragon.com/dragon_trucks.html

I was up there in mid October for a four day weekend... I can think of two times in particular that we were stuck in traffic due to a semi tractor trailer on the road.. One of those occasions, we were stuck for over an hour...

 That's a trivial objection. Look a half mile or so South. Are we done?

I didn't realize we had started? I was genuinely confused by your statement, not trying to be a smartass. In your experiences there, have you come across a lot of people not slowing down at all over that next half mile? Because yeah, that would be incredibly dumb. I've only been there once, but everybody I saw while there had let off before point you're referring to. Of course, it wasn't very busy while I was there either.
