Edd China has decided to leave the British car show, Wheeler Dealers. I'm sure many of you have seen the show in its early days in Great Britain and its most current version in California. It's one of the best "details" oriented TV shows out there that is not just one big pitch for the sponsors.

He made the announcement on his You Tube site.

I for one am sorry to see him leave.

I'll be sad to see him go, as well. I've always enjoyed the Wheeler Dealer episodes, and Edd's work has always been the highlight. I sure wish him well in his future endeavours...he's done much to promote & further the interests of car builders & mechanics everywhere.

After reading his statement, it's clear that the producers have decided to cut back on the detail stuff in Edd's part of the show, opting no doubt for other things that they believe will bring in more money. It's a shame when the bean-counters feel they have to mess with a format that enjoys worldwide success in the hopes of short-term monetary gains.

Edd strikes me as a survivor, though, so I expect we'll hear more of him in the future.

That's too bad. It was one of two shows my wife actually enjoyed watching with me. Besides the interesting cars they fixed up, she appreciated the civility of the show, and the fact that they (and their occasional shop crew) didn't look like rejects from a motorcycle gang as many men on other shows do.

I doubt it will retain its audience with an actor doing the shop segments in place of Edd. I guess we'll see? I'm disappointed in the Discovery Network.

Cheers,

Well, that well and truly su*ks! The first few times I saw it years ago, I kind of brushed it off as kind of simplistic. Then it kind of grew on me. While not an "in depth" restoration or build type of show, it was just deep enough to show some of the pitfalls and issues run into when working on cars. After a while, I began to really enjoy the show. Especially the dry British humor. I too doubt that the show will retain much of an audience for very long, and once again Discovery will have ruined yet another good show. Good luck to Edd China, I'm sure he'll be fine!

Bummed x 2.
Wheeler Dealer was one of a few cars shows that did not have a lot of BS and drama!

So I finally got around to sending feedback to Velocity. "Without Edd I'm outta here."

It's Discovery Channel's fault.

Didn't they see what happened over at the BBC when their auto show stars left?
