I'm another one of those that use jack stands, but also leave the floor jack there as backup.

I had a close call once completely due to my own stupidity. Old F350 dump bed on ramps... I was trying to figure out why the reverse lights didn't work. I had it in reverse (auto).

I narrowed it down to the tranny switch, and completely forgot the battery was still hooked up, and used a continuity meter. I connected to two pins, and it engaged the starter, and the damn thing fired right up. FORTUNATELY my brother was standing right near the driver side and jumped in before the truck started to even move.

That was YEARS ago. I'm ALOT more careful now.

I saw an extra pair of shoes around the truck. I think it was Darwin.

Heheh also be aware of people around that do not know you are there. I had my 65 stang up on ramps adjusting the linkage. Dad needed to go to the store so hopped in fired it and started backing up. Passenger tire rolled over my arm. Changed a few things. No more loud music in the garage. Check under the damn car!

Curious, How many jackstands is enough? Such a thing as to many?

There is never anything such thing as too many safety measures when working under heavy things or those with stored energy.

Well, i was thinking more along the lines of owning x amount. I am not sure i can have enough, Some holding up my bird, some under my LC, and was thinking i could use some more for other stuff. But i agree, safety first.
