My 2000 Tacoma w/ 80K miles doesn't see much use. I make a point of driving it at least once a month, but that's about it. (I need to sell it...)
So I went to drive it this morning, and it seems to shift a little funny. Barely noticed it at first...just didn't go into second very smoothly. Never did reach 3rd gear. About a mile from the house, it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I moved the shifter in and out of park, tried R, D, 2, 1, O/D off, etc. with no change. Reverse worked fine. But still won't shift out of 1st gear.
I checked the fluid level, and it looked about right.
I turn around and to head home (the dogs were very upset about that!) and notice that it really slams into gear...like the torque converter is locked up or something. Yet, when I let off to decelerate, the engine returns to idle and I coast with no engine braking.
I'm not going to make a project of this...it's going to the shop tomorrow. But if someone says to check a vacuum line or the shift fuse or flux capacitor, I'll sure give it a shot.
Any ideas?
