Sorry - I've gone back in your build log a bit & just noticed you're running 40DOCE's, so my suggestions above might not be of assistance.

Good to see you're still on the forum! We've both been around a long while, it seems - you joined 2 days before I did! One thing about us BC'ers, we've got staying power!!

We have haven't we. I have read about all these issues and solutions and was on sidedraft central for a while. I have in my Weber stock pile 30mm,32mm, 34mm, and 36mm venturis I was just thinking that maybe 30's would be better for a 1600cc motor although it a large port head and it has cams, 268 and 272, I think. Any way still fiddling and thanks for the reply.

Sometimes an engine responds better to smaller chokes. I don't know if it's differences in fuel atomization, velocity, or what, but if you have the bits and the time, it might be worth your while to experiment.

Once upon a time I had a 1959 Alfa Spider Veloce. It had a pair of 40DCOEs. The Giulietta was 1,300 cc and the handled the 40mm carbs without any problem, other than a little low on power at lower RPMs.

I never had a need to fiddle with the carbs so can't help there.

So I haven't put many miles on lately so I'm thinking of selling. I'll post a listing in the sales forum.

Sorry to see that happen. I enjoyed your build log and was inspired by it.

Good luck!

Congrats! And i agree with SkinnyG, pics are required! I occasionally wish I hadn't sold the two bugeyes that I had, but if I had kept them I wouldn't have built my Seven.

Hey all. Paul here.

I got David's Low-cost 7 now.
I love this car! Have always wanted a Lotus super 7 since I was a teenager and told David if he ever want to sell I'd buy it from him.

It's been a crazy learning curve figuring out all the parts that went into this build and learning how to tame the Weber. Been tweaking the Webers for the past year. I got some guidance from Mike Owen at Owen's garage who works and races classic British cars and read and/or watched all the stuff I could on Webers and 4A-EG motors. Today I made some great progress and got it tuned really well now.

In keeping with the Low-cost spirit, I upgraded the seats with free VW Passat leather back seats that I got from Facebook marketplace and modified with a sawzall.

I also made some custom center caps with my 3d printer to finish of the Toyota wheels.
Enjoy!

@poly7

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the update. It sounds like the car is in caring and capable hands. Best of luck. Keep posting updates if you improve the Locost further.

Cheers,

Lonnie

I really like the look of those seats!

How much work was it to modify them?
