Well Done, Gavin! Looks like a successful maiden voyage!

Nothing broke, fell off, or caught fire, so you exceeded the Team Slotus standard for test drives!

Congrats!

Thanks guys! it was really an exciting event. A special shout out to Briggs (88 Fab), he has been helping me most of the way through and he welded all of my suspension parts which is probably why nothing fell off

Yes, congratulations - looking good.

I always love it when little kids are adding their excited voices to the scene. Barking dogs are great too.

Cheers,

Do you think we are going to let you get away with simply posting a photo with no description?

We want photos, for sure. But a little dialog would be nice.

Looks like you are getting ready for some aluminum forming work.

Gonna take a lot of shellac to make that cardboard waterproof...

But, it's a nice neutral beige, so it will be easy to find matching drapes. Unless there's something else going on in this dialog-free posting.

Sorry guys, I thought a picture was worth a thousand words...

I am getting ready to send a big envelope to the great state of South Carolina to apply for a serial number aka. VIN. Then it will be able to go for a field inspection for title and registration. No, JD, not a real field :D

In the mean time, I have completed the brakes and brake lights, shifter support that also couples as a drive shaft hoop (no good pictures of it though). I created an idle stop for the throttle body and I am getting ready to fabricate the provisions for the safety harnesses.

Then, it will be time for disassembly and fully weld the chassis and paint it. I am not working right now so I am trying to maximize my time with the car and my 4x4 build.

My birthday is Flag Day so I hope to have it legal by then.

As I get closer to finish weld status, I need to complete the safety items such as harness mounting points and the roll bar braces. I think I will be using the Scroth Rallye Harnesses for the street https://www.schrothracing.com/products/rallye-belts#1611 as they are DOT approved, have a harness wrap option for the shoulder belts, and should be easy to get in and out of for street use. if I get bold enough to compete, I can use the same mounting points and add the antisubmarine belts.

I am working on the roll bar braces and I think I am over thinking it.... Caterham has a simple br@#ket and a bolt mounting them to the chassis which doesn't seem like enough to me but I know they are smarter than I am. BUT, I will build it my way (hopefully over build it). The blue tape represents 3/4" square tubes and the support for the brace will be 1/4" plate at a right angle with the sides measuring 6". The brace angle will be ~55* from horizontal. If you have any questions or suggestions or concerns here, PLEASE SHARE!

Consider shortening the large back brace tube so the attaching corner gusset can be welded to both rectangular and round tube. Then add triangulation from the outboard edge of the gusset down to the lower square corner. Extend the horizontal tube to the right to intersect the outboard triangulation tube.

Dave, I hear you. At least I think I do... As I understand what you wrote, it was one of the ideas I had too and once I read your post, it confirmed that it was the best plan. I am still waiting for the 1/4" flat stock but I tacked things into position. The 1/4" plate will sit on top of the 1/2x1/2 tube and be seam welded to the rear round tube and the side rectangular tube next to the fuel tank.

I bought some 3-point seatbelts from amazon base on some of the posts on this form stating how much of a PITA it is to use harnesses for street driving.
