Bob,

What kind of metal are you making those control arms out of? Also, are you using some sort of CAM software to map those out?

T6 Aluminum. I am using Autodesk Inventor and the CAM program built in, I did a 3d model and cut them on my machine.

Gotcha, I have a little SolidWorks experience, and I've been learning Master CAM for the last semester, though I don't have access to machines of my own for my build.

I really want a milling machine of my own. Probably should learn how to use one before I go out and buy one.

Yeah, ive dealt with Mastercam. I dont like it. Too much money for twenty year old technology.
Inventor with HSM, is cutting edge and you have access to some really cool toolpaths and latest algorthms. Thats just my two cents.

I built a cnc router and have been making money with it. I need a cnc plasma, milling all the brackets gets old...... Lol

I'll let you know on that, I also didn't realize you were in Montreal. I have family up there, though I don't visit more than like once a year, and not for very long.

No problem, will be glad to do it. The machine is in my shop not in production enviroment. I bought it for next to nothing broke. I ripped out all the electronics and redid everything with new boards and rewired it. It is running the opensource LinuxCNC. It does some amazing parts....

IT weighs 8000 pounds. It is a beast, doing little pieces for my car. It was built for production.....

Anyway, I am having fun with it.

When you come to Montreal, let me know and stop by my shop.

Bob

Dropped the motor in it to fabricate the mounts and mount the diff.

Did some more work getting the motor mounted and working on diff mounts.

Diff bracket fabricated using bushings, now just have to make the brackets to hold it. This bolts directly on the diff.

Have one more to fabricate with bushings to hold the front of the diff, then it is on to cutting and fitting drive shaft.

In a volks it is mounted like that. In an Audi it is the other way. 4 wheel drive quattro, has a transmission. Blocking the front. Have to use an Audi diff cause the setup it turns the other direction...... go figure. But I had it mocked up in the frame and it is ok. Working on machining my rear UCA.

Hmm. so you're using the complete AWD Audi longitudinal transmission, but you're blocking off the differential outputs to - what would be in the donor - the front axles, or are you removing the front differential entirely?

Exactly. I will be removing the front diff entirely and blocking the holes. Welding in the transmission so all power goes to back shaft. IT is a great motor. Been in use a while, and very easy to soup up. Mine is already chipped to 2nd stage. IT was getting 240hp when it was in the A4. Parts are available everywhere not expensive. and..... Same motor Donkervoort used in the D8. I Don't know what tranny they used, apparently it is a secret....:-)

Only issue is you have to use their diff cause it goes round the other way...lol
