It's alive and it drives! Went around the corner for the first drive and it feels great. There's still a lot of sorting out to do beyond the "around the block mode". The cars finished enough that I'm scheduling an appointment with the CHP for a new VIN number and then finish the registration process. One major problem is the dash. I used the Honda S2000 digital display but it's not bright enough in the sunlight. You can't read the tachometer or speedometer. Works great at night. I'll try a bigger hood over the face plate to see if that helps. I'm also waiting on the windshield glass to be cut.

Cheers,
Roy

Congratulations... but the lack of head support, oye. You can be the best and safest driver in the world, but someone rear-ends you and it'll be like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat. Just wanting you to be safe - as safe as these things can be. Sorry for raining on the parade but it's fairly easy to correct; even a pad mounted to the roll bar would go a long way to saving your noggin'.

I've got to ditto KB58's comments and add that it doesn't even take a hit in the rear to give you head issues.

On a Cobra, which isn't nearly as stiffly sprung and nowhere nearly as agile, we had neck and head issues from driving on rough roads or autocrossing. Once a friend had a boo-boo from hitting the roll bar during a spin.

Great job on the first drive. Nice to have another S2000 Locost running around.

Congratulations on finishing your second build, Roy.

That's wonderful, but I'm still working on build numero uno, so I'm feeling old and slow at the moment while lookin' at yours. :crying: You aren't related to Perry up in Alberta are you?

Cheers,

Hang in there Lonnie - Why you're only on page 107 of your build log.

Thanks to the other guys for the comments. I've put the subject of the head restraints on my "to do" list. I don't think these cars ever get really finished, there's always some little thing to do.

Cheers,
Roy

Thanks-
Had to change the dash because I just couldn't see the stock Honda S2000 digital dash even with maximum shielding from the sun. Also added an "egg crate" style grill.

Nice proper 7! Good job on the bonnet as well as everything else one can see.

Yes Sharif it was successful. Why do you ask?

I completed the hood and some of the other sheet metal pieces such as the shrouds on both sides of the radiator (to direct the air flow through the radiator). I also installed the rear compartment covers. I debated whether to use a tonneau cover or solid sheet to cover the compartment. I may switch back to a flexible vinyl tonneau cover in the future.

I also found a stainless steel heat shield for the muffler to keep the passenger from a nasty leg burn. I added some louver plates to the hood to allow better cooling from the engine compartment. One last touch was to finish the grill with an “egg crate” type grill. I love the old Ferrari’s with this type grill.

I now need to remove all the newest brackets and grill to have them all powder coated.

Roy

Im planning my second Caterham 7 replica.
A similar project, with a S2000 Transmission and differential.
But my concern is the stability... The dampers being used and what steps to go about...
Purely for Road/Street use...

if you can help me with it...that would be great.
