Taking a break from building.
Heading to Vegas Monday for a few days.
Tell Sin City I said Howdy. Ever been to Red Rock Canyon, about 5 miles west of town? Nice sight-seeing ride, places to hike, picnic. Good "break" from the casinos. Head out of town on Charleston Blvd, keep going...

Enjoy the trip!

Hey JD

It was our first trip there, mind boggling. Drove out to Hoover dam, then across the city to Red Rock Canyon, both awe inspiring.
We want to go back, there is tons more to see.

2" snow today. Out to the shop for a bit, more 10% stuff. Made a construction paper pattern for the windshield glass. Put the fenders back on till paint. Anchored the ends of the seat belts. That's about it.

So when you order the rear fenders how much clearance do you give them around the tire?

I believe it's around 2" if memory serves me correctly, now if you ask the wifey she'll say it's less than that.

Ok. That would make sense. That fender should have a 1.5" radius on the outside edge and it follows your tire fairly tight. I would have guessed 1-1/2". 2 is just a little extra wiggle room. Thanks Perry.

Out to the shop for a bit today. Crossed some stuff off the 10% list.
It was -11c (+12f) out today so I thought I'd do some grillin'.

Uhhh... Y'all ARE talking about fenders, aren't ya??? I think I'll just sit here quietly...

Glad y'all enjoyed Vegas. There's a lot to do in/around town when you're not on The Strip... Did you see Fremont Street? It was the Strip before there was the Strip. Just casinos and tourist stores, but the light show is amazing. If not, save it for next time.

12 degrees F and 2 inches of snow on the ground... Ohhh Mannnn... Wanna hear about the shorts and T shirt I'm wearing, working with the big garage door open? No? OK, didn't think so...

Your detail work on the car is amazing. Good on ya!

Nice work on the car, Perry. I'm glad to see you're braving the elements.

We finally got cold down here too. Our overnight temperature was 54° F last night. I tried wearing my long sleeve T-shirt and Levi's yesterday, but it got me all sweaty, so I went back to shorts and a thin, short sleeve, T-shirt. That worked much better.

Are you sure you don't want to come down here and help me on my build this winter?

Cheers,

Like I said, WOW, we have to go back to see more. We went to Fremont Street, my buddies wifey zip lined there. Me and wifey plan to do that when we go back

Hey Lonnie, as I type it's 0*F outside. Definitely t shirt and sandals here. I don't dress warm till it hits -20*F, then I put a toque on.
Iffin there was a place to park the ole motorhome in a RV park in Carlsbad, I might consider your offer.

Well I put the build away for the winter till paint season in 2018.
I are switching over to the Topolino 500 (Little Mouse) Altered build. I am excited to start building again, I need a change up iffin you know what I mean, too many years building the same cars.

Hi Perry, I’ve been admiring the front fender mounts you made and posted on March 17, 2017 (about page 20 from the beginning of your Build Log or page 8 from the end.) Could I pick your brain a bit on how they are constructed. Specifically:

What size tubing (OD and thickness) did you use for the mounts?

How are the fenders attached to the tubes (all I can see are Clecos)?

Where the mounting tubes penetrate the rolled edges of the fenders, it looks like round holes were made to preserve some of the integrity of the rolled edge. Is that correct or did you make U-shaped cuts?

Are you satisfied with the stiffness of the mounts?

Are those Fenders’n’more flattop fenders?

Your thoughts on using the rock guard coating?

Thanks. All in all, a beautiful build!
