It looks like you may get some more use out of that convertible top this winter, Perry. We're getting stories about the polar vortex shifting off to the east this winter, with warming of the high level atmosphere over our North West, your B.C. and Yukon, plus Alaska as I'm reading the graphic (link) below.

Well hello everyone!!
After taking the summer/fall off from building I put the RC airplane stock in storage and moved some shop items including the valve grinding machine, engine hoist, engine stands, and build table to the hobby shop side of the shop. This gives me room to put the 7 to the side when I need to work on customer vehicles.
I have the 7 of car dollies so that I can move it around easily.


Started plumbing in the fuel lines. I decided to use the gas vapor recovery system on this build so I need to order more fuel line as an after thought. I will do that once we get back from Barbados in middle January.

Hey Perry,

I'm glad to see you're back at it. Have big time fun in Barbados.

I took some time off myself to totally upgrade our home (including my office space), which was way, way overdue for it. Just yesterday, I moved all the household things out of my garage/shop space and back into their places in the revamped house. So, now I can start work again on my own build, beginning this week.

So.......I have another year to get things done that I didn't do last year, can't complain

Goal for 2017 is to finish this 7 , because I've purchased the drive train for #4, The Super Slant 6 Se7en

Anyhoo, hope to see a lot of buildin' and bs'n going forward into 2017 with this awesome group of people.

Well, I went out to the shop yesterday and introduced myself to the 7 and shortly thereafter commited fabrication.
I welded up and installed a mounting base for the EVAP canister. Mounted the EVAP purge solinoid and vent valve, then plumbed it all in. Finished up all fuel line from the tank to the front of the car (with the exception of mounting the lines to the tunnel).


I then measured, cut, and bent straps for tying down the tank. Welded 1/4" bolts to the ends of the straps.



Using 1/4" thick rubber strips on the base and 1/8" rubber strips on the top corners, the straps are installed for test fit.



Next project will be the filler neck mount.

Yesterday's project was mounting the filler neck. Did some figurin', scratchin', and cuttin'. Then tacked it all up.
The plan is to have a recessed filler and have the marker plate hinged to conceal (just like #2 LSO seven build).





On a side note, here's a tool that I can't live without when fabricating. IMHO everyone should have this. It's cheap to buy and it doesn't cost very much either.

Thanks Steve, I like to keep things simple and try to use as much as the OEM peices as I can even if it means reworking them to fit the purpose.

Hey Lonnie - Nah, this is no race, just fun building cars

So out to the shop for a bit today. Decided after a good scratch that I was going to fab up the front nose frame out of 16 ga steel.
Set up the plasma cutter and plywood pattern and fabbed away.


For those of you that are on the fence about investing in a plasma cutting for car fabrication, I took a short vid today cutting some 1" strips to build the nose frame. You really have to bend your ear to hear me, wasn't talking too loud.

Cut and welded everything up and test fit with cleco's.



Attached to the frame using riv nuts and 10-24 aviation screws. Used rubber washers between attach points and nose on the front attach points.

Nice to see that you're enjoying the Slotus after all your hard efforts.

Believe it or not there's not as much snow as there should be here. If it stays this way, we will need spring rains or it will be a very dry spring - that gets the farmers a bit cranky.

Well
Went out to the shop after supper, (it was a lazy retirement day today), stood around and scratched a bit. Now I'm doing things in a diffent sequence on this build to keep things interesting. Normally before I build the scuttle I would have the floor and tunnel 16 ga steel in place, lets try something different.
Fabbed up the frame for the pedal assembly out of 3/4" 16 ga sq tube. I will be making a removeable cover to access the pedal assembly.



Then I had to sit down and have a talk with myself.
I said self, how many times do you have to burn your thumbs before you throw these welding gloves away that are just broke in but have holes in the thumbs?


So I regretffuly gave them up for some new ones.....
