I'll have to find some nice wing nuts.
Yep, nice wing nuts... And you might wanna put some glass or something like that in the middle... Just a suggestion... IMHO...

Made a couple of seat brackets. A little spongy. Need to add a bracket to the rear and front as well. The aluminum C channel design should work ok just need more of it. Brackets are .080

I had to take a little break from this for a bit. Took my block to the machine shop today for assessment of piston size to buy and prices on machining. Should hear back next week.
Does anyone have a 10.5lb flywheel they are running?. Looking for their feedback on the set up.

Are you looking for info on your particular application or just in general? If just in general, I'd say go as light as you can. I've got 9lb flywheel in my locost, and I don't have any issues with it. I wish I had a lighter pressure plate so it would pick up revs even quicker.

Kristian that's perfect(Thank you) that's exactly what I was looking for. I want a faster Reving engine and I'm lightening up in the pistons and rods but wondered about the fly wheel lighting as well. I know I am giving up toque but in a small car are you really giving up performance. Your real life experience is well respected.

I would have loved to get a lighter flywheel vs the stockish 23lb unit I bought. However, I couldn't justify the increased cost. It was recommended to me to go as light as I could afford.

Nice. I didn't get a flywheel with the engine so I am probably looking at an 8lb aluminum. Good feedback.

First piece of the puzzle showed up yesterday. I have decided to do a complete build on the engine.

Wiseco High comp. pistons
Molnar rods
Fidanza aluminum flywheel 8lbs
ACL bearings.
adjustable cam gears
new oil pump, water pump, harmonic balancer
port and polish head, gasket match intake and exhaust.
all prep for turbo down the road.

the rotating assembly looses 12lbs over stock.

QUESTION: When to use a performance harmonic balancer vs. Stock. I don't know how to answer this question.

I can't answer your harmonic balancer question, but that sounds like quite a program for your engine - nice. I like those connecting rods. They look really high tech.

Cheers,

Thanks Lonnie, I did find some limited info last night on the web. The horsepower range they talked about was after 250whp and anything sustaining over 8k rpm. If the turbo goes on I'll need a new balancer. So I guess stock is fine now.
I thought about this a lot and to buy a running engine their running $1000-1500 mileage depending. Then you still don't know what you have. I am expecting to spend about $2500. Then I know what I have and it's built to take whatever I want to through at it.
Those rods are a standard H-beam, sexy aren't they. 8)

Took 2months off from the car. Feels good to get stuff going again. The fuel tank got welded this week, seats next. I do have stuff to do now. Tank supports this weekend should be fun.

The kit is put together and all goes off to the machine shop. Their all US made which was a shocker. The flywheel and pistons are absolutely gorgeous. The picture do not do them justice. Its too bad this is the only time you get to see them. The weights on the pistons didn't very a gram all spot on 295 grams. All told up the rotating mass is 13lbs lighter. The little 4 banger should really sing. I am going with a stock balancer that will come in next week. This engine currently doesn't warrant a high performance balancer. The ones available are half the cost of the machine shop. That will have to be phase 2.
