Pretty!

But please school me. What is the purpose of the groves cut on the OD of the piston above the top ring? certainly no reduced friction.

Chuck I never gave it a thought. I looked on their page and noticed other models have them too. I'll see what I can find out. Must be some technology they believe in. I was leaning heavily to the super tech pistons then found a shop did testing with wiseco and supertech. They found the wiseco rings had almost double the pressure and sealed much better. 36lbs vs 58lbs I think we're the numbers. Also wiseco fits a tighter tolerance on the wall so less slap.

Interesting. So instead of 1 they build smaller ones and more of them. Thanks.

I learn something new every day.

It is either:

a: Heat dam or
b: anti scuff bands or
c: anti-detonation bands (http://www.powermaxengineering.com/forged%20pistons.htm) or
d: something else?

Thanks.

Cool pistons. What do you expect your compression ration to be?

Cheers,

Cheers,

The pistons are 10.5:1. The block and head are in really good shape so I expect a pretty true ratio. Decking the head will only be a couple thousands.

Have a short block as of last night. Very exiting. It will be a couple weeks for the head

Finally got to slide the new bottom end back into the car. Flywheel, clutch all set. The head is at the machine shop yet. I also sent out the valve cover and intake for powdercoat.

You may want to gusset your engine mounts. I used a similar design on my car and the plate that bolts to the block cracked at the weld.

Nothing fancy - just mild steel. I'm going from memory but I believe the plate was 1/8" thick. I was in a bind for time when I found it so I ground the crack to a V shape and filled it with weld.

I came up with a pretty slick new design in my head but it never got built; weld some stubs of tubing around each bolt hole and gusset the tubing to the main tube with sheet metal. It would require socket head cap screws for head clearance but it would transfer the load from the mount to the bolts nicely. If I wanted to get really fancy I'd just about eliminate the plate completely and only have thicker pieces of steel at the end of each tube to catch the bolt head (the mount would look sort of like an exhaust collector) and cap off the bottom with some thin sheet metal.

Ok. This is 1/4" steel on both ends. The tube is actually pipe sch40 stainless with full pen welds built out. I don't know. Try it? The rubber mounts are Jaguar 6cyl motor mounts.
