Who needs to see over their engine? The top of my air cleaner is right at eye level when I'm in my car. At first it was kind of annoying, but it's grown on me in a sort of ratfink hotrod way. It's something I barely even notice now.

I won't have a shifter through the roof of my car though...

Yeah, that may be carrying things just a bit too far with these cars..Wait, these cars don't normally have roofs.. Well, roof or not, it would probably make the throws on the shifter a bit long for any performance driving!

I'm not surprised, Ct. is probably just about as bad as New York and New Jersey for that kind of stuff.

Hah! I'm only 34, Ratfink was way before my time. I did grow up reading stacks of old Hotrod and Car Craft magazines though, along with Cartoons and Cycletoons. I have a spare transmission for my car that has the stock floor shifter, so I put it in my car one time just for giggles. No roof to stick through, but it was over the dash.

Now that I have officially determined which variation of the 260/5 I have, I've sorted the gear ratios and did some more mathing.

nv1500 3.94, 2.37, 1.49, 1.00, 0.83
260/5 3.83, 2.2, 1.4, 1.00, .81

nv1500
28mph 1st gear
47mph 2nd gear
75mph 3rd gear
111mph 4th gear
134mph 5th gear

Getrag 260/5
30 1st
52 2nd
82 3rd
114 4th
140 5th

add in the extra 50 lbs and a butt load more hp/tq.. Should net a 0-60 right around 4 seconds flat. More than fast enough for me!

Of course with this comes stopping power.. The s10 came with 10.5" vented rotors up front and drums out back. the rotors should be more than adequate for stopping this little nugget. They were good enough for a 152ft 60-0 stopping distance for a 3200lb truck, I'd imagine it'd be significantly less.

so brakes, check.

So, didn't get much done this weekend.. took a trip to good ol Long Island to visit the in-laws.

Good trip. I dread going as I'm pretty allergic to cats and they have four giant fluffy ones.. but I did my time and 20 hours after leaving I finally feel like I can breathe a little bit again.

We did have a nice outing to the Long Island aquarium. Cupcake and TWWTFM for Perry ;)

It's pretty incredible to be making all these memories. Our little nugget is walking already and was fascinated by all the fish - sea lions - monkeys - birds (weird aquarium eh?).

Back to car things though. My motor mounts are here! its chilly this week again. damn ground hog lied.. or got his schedule wrong, we went straight from winter to spring to winter.

So I need to pick up some big flat washers to disperse the weight across the whole surface. Then I think I may have found a way to make the car work LHD. I've got quite a few orders coming across from my side business and have an interview for a significant transfer/promotion within the company. If that comes across, I'll order both my shocks and front control arms when I finally get the knuckles off of the s10.

going to a concert this Thursday, best friends birthday on Wednesday amidst wife's hobbies and our family time - probably won't get to play till Saturday.

So I got some freebies earlier today.. Pretty sure they came out of an NB Mazdaspeed Miata, but they most recently came out of a turbo II Rx7.

Friend wanted em out of his storage locker. They are much narrower than the corbeaus, but retain the same height and interior width. comfortable too!

Nice score! They look reasonably modern. You might have to learn to sew, though. Would anyone have ready-made seat covers for them?

Cheers,

I can sew a little bit.. my father in law owns a large tent business and is a phenomenal sewer? phenomenal at sewing? sewist?

My problem with ready made seat covers is I can't pin down what exactly they came out of. I thought they were NB mazdaspeed Miata but maybe not through a google search. No part numbers on them either, and they have low sliders on them.
