I used sheets of foam glued together to shape the body. I sculpted one side then made templates every 2 inches of the length and transferred it to the other side.
Agreed, it is a lot of work, and for a one-off it really is not worth it (if you want it to be millimetre accurate) unless either A: this is your lifetime project or B: you intend to build molds and market body parts. I am not sure if I fit either of those, as have no intentions to build a faithful replica of the original car; but a personalised version of it. We will see what happens I guess.
I have already built several previous vehicles in this way, and I do enjoy the challenge and endless cursing
