I like no marcel, but damper springs are very nice to have, unless you are going for 10 tenths.

Yeah, this was my only option before going to a twin disc. (cost a fortune so went this route) The motors going to be making a little more then the clutchs rated torque, but I somewhat doubt slipping will be a big issue given the weight and how terrifying full thottle aught to be. Moving in traffic is annoying but once your going fast engagement with a heavy pressure plate is really satisfying

Started on the Buck! The original plan was plywood but right now that'd involve selling my kidneys to finance the endeavor. Happy with the wireframe method so far. This is using 1/4" cold rolled steel, if I like how its goin I'll copy each member to make the opposite side (tolerances will be loose like most handmade bodies, shooting for 1/4")

Edit: Got creative with masking tape and packing paper to help visualize.

Nice work on the buck, and the curves look good with the paper covering.

Casey Putsch/Genius Garage is a YT channel I frequent, and he's building a fully bespoke (Boxster based) coachbuilt car, building the buck is tedious work, for sure.

Seeing how his turned out Gave the confidence to jump in here with the Buck, he's heavily eyeballing it and everything still looks great! Check out Runge Cars along with Wrays Proshaper Workshop

Yeah, a shame he's gotten burned out on it a bit, but I can see how it's a lot more work than he was expecting.
It'll be a blast when it's done, as will yours

Very nice job on the buck. As was said before, the curves look very nice.

Will your rear wheels move inward with bump? At least from the camera's point of view, the clearance with the rear fender looks pretty close. Is it just the camera angle that makes it look so?

Cheers,

Damn! That front slip angle is way too large and the Ackerman is just a muddle.

Your eyes do no deceive you, there's only a few millimeters of room at the tightest point, with the solid axles under bump it shouldn't shift much left to right but rubbing on the fender could be an issue seeing as the fenders curve a bit inward over the wheel.

Good news is these are placeholders, I plan to run a 17x10 +20 wheel at the rear with a similar 275-40 tire. Factoring in the massive spacers behind the vette wheels, a 17x10 w/o spacer will be inboard 10mm or so which is plenty for clearances. I would've liked to make the rear track around The final set I plan to run, but that's an expensive proposition, and they ship direct from an oversees manufacturer.(gonna take months to show up)

Figured strike while the irons hot and build this body around what I've already got.

Brakes work! Still need to make all the mounting brackets to hold the hoses and T-fittings in place but it feels like another step getting that system up.

Paint is becoming an issue. Original plan was to roll on paint as I go but I've decided the finish isn't good enough. Great, spraying looks good and I can just tear the car down to its bones when I'm done, problem is alot of this wireframe buck is going to be integrated into the chassis as things progress. I don't see a good time to paint the car anywhere in between as the paneling should start slinging soon. It boils down to: Normally we paint the frame then install the body panels, Im integrating much of the body into the frame and there are areas that can't get good paint coverage after completing the chassis. Probably making a mountain out of a molehill, and I should continue to roll paint areas that don't see the light of day.

The buck I showed earlier got tossed and rebuilt both sides in tandem. Its pretty much the same, with the bumper moved inboard a little, roof came down at the back, and fiddled with the fender lines to better match the eventual higher offset wheels.

Isnt much technique to it other then to make one line, mirror it to within a couple mm and carefully measure where they welded in. The big question are the wheelwell lines that by nature of bending on more then one axis cannot be mirrored. Did my best using templates, measurements, and somewhat verified their similarity as all the mirrored lines fit into place within 1/4-1/8" variance side to side.

Line was mirrored from the RH side so it should fit snug.

1/4" off, so reweld the LH line clocked further out.

The process or mirroring to the degree I want is very time consuming, but its working.

Pedals are also in, though the throttle is a little far back for heel toe (not sure how feasible that'll be with no Servo anyways) Had dreams of using an oem throttle cable, but alas, it's is not to be.

95-04 tacoma 3.4l cable appears to be a good solution if you can’t find the perfect length:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/95-04-Toyota-T ... 3954998113

I remember Hotrod building steel monster flares on a fox bodied lx mustang. Basically two sheets (top arc and side arc) with no compounds, spotted to the wire form, rolled around the wire edge. Some filler but it looked great!

In work pics I know, but the corner on the left rear where the fender meets the bumper does not appear to mirror the right side in case you didn’t catch it.

The Tacoma cables a good idea, might be able to find that locally.

I don't see an issue but here a closer pic in case I'm missing something. The wireframe dosent show up in pics well, maybe the 90° support beam behind the bumper/fender made it look off?

Yeah, it was just the photo angle that made it appear off.

Fascinating work on the buck. Lots of time/effort/patience/cursing for sure. End result will make it worth it.

Second paper mockup, these will be used as templates for cutting out the steel.

Sure starting to look like a widen late model Triumph GT 6 mark 3 from the back to me. Maybe you could source the GT 6 taillights. Keep your British car theme going.

Any converns about contortions needed for ingress and egress? With a fixed top, I'd be concerned IF I could get in, i couldn't get out
