Hello Locosters; this will be my intro to the LocostUSA members. I've had an interest in performance cars since the sixties. Tried on Lotus 7 for size in 1966, a tite fit. I'm 6-2 and 200 lbs.
I've looked at kit descriptions and pricing and discovered McSorleys frame dimensions and its forward go since then. Lots of study and review, One 1978 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sprint Veloce dismantled last summer and the first steel cut in Oct. 2007.
July 2008 and this what I'm up to at my house:
--rad mounts reconfigured--- now removable :D
--chassis floor welded on and chassis painted (Zero Rust) 2 coats
--front suspension and steering rack installed, ball joints fully torqued,obvious re-alignment needed
--fender brackets completed/installed and front fenders mounted
--engine reinstalled Alfa 116 2ltr
--1 shortened prop shaft installed
--rear drive train/transaxle with suspension and inboard brakes installed
--engine plumbed
--cowl completed and dashboard mock-up transferred to 1/8 alum with instruments (Alfa) and switches
--roll bar fabbed and will be off to chromers
--camcover off and will be off to powder coaters (black finish)
--zeroing in on colour...Alfa Rosso Proteo Metallizato :!:
--head lites and front turn signals are hung (H/D and Suzuki)
--rear lites still in the box ("39 Ford)
--all steering shaft joints fully welded where required and removable steering wheel (Momo) with quick release welded on

So its officially (Badges? we don't need no stinking badges! I'm the official cuz I say so,.....and a duster fan) a true assembled roller :!: Big day :!:

-----next steps
...making it stop.. brake (Wilwood overhead reverse mounted with remote reservoirs) and clutch lines to be run
--hood forming and skinning the chassis
and so on and so on....10 months and counting to date

hope this is not too long winded :lol:
I've got lots of pictures to share if any are interested and if I can figure out the procedure (message file size to big) :cry:
Regards Wilf, (cfv23844)
from sunny Gabriola, B.C.

Ive just about finished the aluminum panelling and the hood which has some fiddiling about to be right. I'm pleased with the results. Next in the works is completion of the rear deck fairing in fibreglass. That has a steep learning curve.
If I could just find those seat belts, they are somewhere in the shop so I wouldn't misplace them. :?

I finished the black painted sections, fenders, nosecone and hood.
I used the Mopar list $50 paint job routine and I'm pleased with the results.
It passes my 3ft test.
My costs were $15 tremclad black
$ 11 hi-density foam roller kit
$ 5 hi-density foam roller re-fills
$ 5 1 liter mineral spirits
$ 6 2 each 600/1000/1500 grit wet & dry paper
$ 6 Turtle wax polishing compound
$ 7 shamwow type cloth
$ 6 metal etching primer
total $46 cdn
The only conflict with the Mopar list I found, the etching primer is required on the aluminum hood.
(peeled off otherwise, all other pieces were already primed and adherence was fine)

Regards, Wilf

Looks great!
I would have never expected to see a $50 paint job looking as good :)

Looks great. Love that Alfa engine - one of the one I considered but anything but the 1.3L was too tall for my chassis.

I wasn't trying for a rat/rod look. The shifter will be cut down to a more managable length and the windshield/windscreen follows my interpretation of the local MVA that glass 12 inches above the cowl
constitutes a windshield requiring wipers, demisting system, and full frame. My windscreen is 10 inches above the cowl, so, no wipers, demisting and no full frame. Windscreen.
The 2 liter Alfa twincam engine is 23 inches tall. My side rails are 15 inches high with the hood just clearing the 0170 cap :wink:

regards, wilf

I'm guessing it's the italian version of the good ol' 710 cap :lol:

Is that windshield information written down anywhere, trying to find MV information in this Province is almost impossible. :BH:
