I bought steel today. Much more than I need I think. Local steel place doesn't care round tubing stock. Weird. I have an online place that is in KY I might try (I'm lazy).

https://www.metalsdepot.com/index.phtml Anybody ever use them?

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for your RHS tubing?

I got the square stuff local. I paid $171.50 for 7 24' 1x1 peices, and $54 for 3 24' 3/4x3x4.

Those front upright compound angles (probably can't see in photo since I didn't set it up yet) are PAINFUL. I must cut 6-7 pieces before I finally figured it out.

fwiw, this is a mcsorley 442. I 'sat' in it tonight and did the 'vrrrrrmm vrrmmmmmmmmm' thing.. and it's SMALL. Granted I'm 6'4" and 230lbs.. but it's definately into the gokart territory. Can't wait :)

In other news. I would have made more progress except one of my kids managed to break his arm (upper humorous - although I didn't think it was so funny) today. I had to do the doc-in-a-box thing, and deal with the evil-ex-wife thing (yech). Normally I try to return them unbroken, but it seems more often lately one or the other has some kind of issue (twins).

Lesson learned? More video games.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your son's arm. Humeral fractures are usually extremely painful and inconvenient. Often they aren't casted but merely splinted. Hopefully his will heal without much angulation.

What is the doc-in-a-box thing?

He still has to go see an orthopedic. Currently he's just in a sling, so we'll see.

doc-in-a-box = urgent care facility

In regards to tools. I have used my chop saw for a few things, but it's like cutting butter with a hammer. I have actually resorted to hand cutting every peice with a hacksaw. Go figure.

Just a word of advice, the 2 rails that cross the engine bay on the bottom, leave them just tacked in until you trial fit the engine, I made the mistake of welding them in to book spec, but my engine's sump is a bit wider, I had to cut them out and use new pieces at a wider angle

How's your steel supply holding up? You gonna have much leftover?

Good plan. I eyeballed it. :)

I plan on setting the engine back as far as reasonable too. It's a mazda 12a and I don't think it'll have a problem from what I can tell.

Looks like alot leftover. I haven't touched the 3/4 yet. I also haven't done the back portion because I want to place the axle and rear control arm links first. That isn't going to take much steel though.

The funny thing is, I did a spreadsheet based on the locost to optimize the cuts based on the lengths of the steel. I have completely ignored it. I've been cutting as needed and I'm having just 1-2 inch peices left over so far. Kinda odd. I've been following the cut order based on the locost pdf, aside from the rear section that I havent' touched yet.

I pulled the engine and trans from the donor today. I don't plan on using the engine, has a bad apex seal anyway. So I'm parting that out. I'll use the trans mated to my good street port 12a until I can build something fresher.

Goodies arrived.. I love UPS..

Potential rear control arms.

New tube arrived today. From metalsdepot referenced earlier in this thread... oddly 6 tubes shipping cost was only $5.83?

Moly threaded bungs for above tubing.
