....economically, certainly the cheapest way to go up here.... I have three cars insured for less then $400 a year....

Hi Phil, absolutely love your build. I'm trying to get some estimates on build a chassis exactly like yours. I also have a ls1 t56 sitting in the garage. I was saving it for a cobra replica until I realized I don't fit well inside one. Plus I want a rollcage for safety, so I really like your approach. Any chance you've got measurements or plans that I could give a shop for a quote?

Somewhere in my build (page 4?), I have the dimensions ,but the plans where just a sketch on some graph paper. Built the cage and basic frame .Then a fair bit of mockup with the bits I had to figure out the rest. Feel free to copy from the pictures.

I know this is an old thread but what rear spindles did you use?

Great build!

Just stumled upon this, and it is close to what I am planning to do. LS, roll cage, etc. I definitely appreciate all the details and pics!

So how much does it weight in the end, with all the body work etc. equipped?
How much do you think you could get less if you really try?

Hello All

Bringing this post back from the Dead.

Have been planning some upgrades to my car for quite a while.

Number one is a heads and cam upgrade(springs + pushrods also). Probably will just port the stock heads as I'm happy with the performance already at 330Whp and just am after the sound and a little more performance. Hoping to get over 400Whp.

When I first got the car I weighed it at the dump but the numbers just didn't make sense so I never reported them

Just bought a 660lb animal scale on Amazon for ~$60CDN and corner scaled the car

Locost weights
Pf 486
Df 493
Pr 516
Dr 484
Total 1976lbs or 896kg
Front 49.5%
Rear 50.5%
I sit well back of centreline so should shift rearward and to drivers side with me in
With all fluids and 1/4 fuel
Motor and trans offset 3/4” to pass side
Battery mounted in rear pass side

I have not adjusted any shock heights so I am pretty happy with that.

So I am pleasantlty suprised considering it is +6 wide
and +12 long approx.
It has a full cage and a large trunk.

Just purchased some FR500 wheels which are 28lb lighter overall than currents and considering Nankang AR1 tires (they run them on Donkervoorts) or Nitto NT05s. Considering reducing front tire width to 255/40/17 as i feel my current 275/40/17 may be overkill.

I do have a problem in my front suspension geometry. If I set my Castor around 4deg I have no self centering at all. When I increase it to 6deg It just barely self centers. AT 12 deg(switching front and rear swaged tubes) it rips my little 12" wheel out of my hands.

I am begining to suspect that my neg offset rims dont play well with my mustangII spindles and hubs which probably ran with zero offset rims.
I suspect a 1" spacer may help

anyone else had similar problems?

The next thing is I have grown tired of polishing aluminum.
So I plan to paint it all one color either silver like this

or blue like this

also plan to make some fabric doors for the top I made already.

Have some more modern headlights and some driving lights.

Upgrading interior with carpet and leather tunnel cover like this that snap in.

upgrading heating system with better fan and outlets on dash and for feet. Currently only have Defrost(weak).

add switches on dash for int lights ,fuel pump , ignition , blower fan, glovebox?,cupholders? usb port, tray for cellphone etc

might go crazy and get some aluminum racing mufflers (lose about 50 lbs).

I'm getting older (retired now) and some minor comforts could extend my driving season.

Phil
