Sorry if you covered this before. Are you using a NC 5 speed trans or a NA/NB? If using the older model 5 speed, how did you adapt it to the Duratec?

Thanks!

NC 5-speed and nc driveshaft. The adaption to the NB diff will happen with the driveshaft when I have it shortened

I was wondering what was involved in connecting an NC transmission to a NB diff. So the NC driveshaft yoke fits an NB diff input flange, just needs to be shortened?

I can't say if the flanges on the diff side are the same, just that I decided that would be the easiest place to do any custom work needed. I have a NC driveshaft but it is still in the box. Keep checking back for updates, but it may he summer before I get to that point

Where did you find a NC 5 speed trans and driveshaft in the states? I thought we only got the 6 speed?

Thanks!

Body panels in hand from Kenetic. Still a ways off from installing them. Currently need to finalize the diff mount and weld it up. Trying to make sure it can be removed if need be at some point. Would likely have to pull the fuel tank and rear skin. Will have to consider that when installing those pieces

Starting to get serious about a jig for the rear lower control arms. Will eother have to do 1.25" tube for those bungs, or turn them down on the lathe to 3/4" so they will fit into the 1" tube easier. They are large because of the M14 bolt for the miata rear knuckle. Will use shims and washers to get final fit against the knuckle. Also I finally am getting an idea of how I will sit in the car. I may have to lower the floor 1" for Ideal fit but we will see. Definatly want to sit low but still have sliders to help my crippled body get in and out.

Got the bushings out of the old diff. It was a process but not too difficult.

The easy way is to use a hand torch to ignite the rubber and keep it going long enough (it self-extinguishes) to heat the bond to the steel shell in the aluminum casting. They pop themselves out of the shell leaving a perfectly smooth, easy to clean shell for a urethane bush or easier shell removal if you don't have access to a press or a balljoint remover tool (free rental from most auto parts stores).

This was was.pretty easy. I hole drilled out the side that didn't fall off on it's own. used a grinder to notch out the halfs on the top, then hammer and punched em out pretty quick. Without starting a rubber fire in my garage. Did smell a little like Victory after the hole saw though

If you can get most of the rubber removed and need to remove the pressed-in steel ring. I used to cut the ring with a hacksaw. I then found that running a weld bead around the inside of the ring will shrink the ring and it just about falls out. I have used this method several times. For a pressed-in bushing in a cast iron hole, be careful not to weld too deep.

Nice! A set of those, Minilites, or similar is on my wishlist for the Midget.

Just checked & Rota offers them in 13x7 & 13x8.
Priced similarly to some of the other Minilite replicas.
