30mm square tube x 2 mm thick for your upper shaft, 25mm square tube x 2mm thick for your lower shaft. Weld the appropriate ends on.

Slide inside with large overlap, say 8 to 12", with plenty of metal caulk or whatever you call silicone rubber over there.

Here is the angle on the steering column - and it still uses the upper collapsible section.

And the body panels arrived! Happy with the color, but I think I still may have to do some bodywork, which requires painting anyway. Not real happy about that. I may go the wrap route, but never having done that, I also may not. Fit seems good though, and I actually have more room in the rear area than I thought I would have, so that's a plus (for fuel and boot space).

Looks like they shipped you Slotus's bodywork by misteak.

Nope, all mine is still here, I just went and looked.
Some of it is a mite dusty, but it's here!

I showed Bubba where you wrote "misteak" instead of mistake. He said, "We ain't never missed no steak. You servin' steak, I gonna be there, front of da line! Same goes for pork chops, too!"

Well if if'n it tweren't your body (I mean the car's not yours because the shipping charges would be astronomical) then the factory must have been infected with that green Slotus virus.

Ha - it was unintentional. I was just going for British Heritage...

I do like steak though.

After visiting John's shop and seeing a pretty cool little set of tools, I had to make some for myself! These are really slick for holding stuff to weld. I'm probably going to make a long one as well. I've already used them a couple times!

I also placed some wheels on the car to sort fitment of the wings, and because it looks cool! I also had the radiator in the nose, which is tight vertically. I'm working on this issue currently - I also want to have room for a small intercooler somewhere. I've decided to sell the supercharger and go the turbo route.

I also bought some headlights from SVC. They have a great price on these! They are the caterham 5 3/4" headlights, which I spent more on after seeing the way they look on John's car. Here's a link to them if anyone else needs 5 3/4" nice lights:

http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/5-3-4--f ... ing-black/

They have numerous other lights at good prices as well. I bought the clip-on mirror from them for my classic Mini years ago, and have been very happy with their level of service.

I'm going to go grab some rivnuts and dzus plates today to try to get the body and radiator mount tabs sorted. That, and the headlight mounts, will let me finish weld and finally paint the chassis.

Started working on the hydraulics - I'm trying to stay as stock as possible with parts replacement down the road. The stock clutch line was first up - worked like a champ. I had to fab a line with british fittings on one end for the Girling style clutch master to the Miata stock (well, stainless steel) flexible line. My first attempt at flaring and bending hard line, and it worked out pretty well (I think). I'll put a P-clamp on the hard line once the car is all together. The stock flex line to hard line is mounted with the stock bracket and some studs welded to the firewall.

I think I'm going to hold off on brakes until I have the chassis painted so I don't have to pull it all back out again.

Put it together; take it apart. Put it together; take it apart. Put it together; take it apart. Put it together; take it apart. Story of my build...

I'd recommend getting the car to where you can drive it around the block, then take it all apart and paint everything. Otherwise there's a really good chance you'll have we weld some little bracket here or there and then you'll be touching up paint (which is ok too, if you're ok with that).

BTW, your car looks sweeet with those wheels (I'm a little jealous). It's really coming together.

I'm going with Wheezer on this. At least that's how I proceeded.

Also second his admiration of the wheels. And where did you get the bearing for the steering column through the firewall?

Good build.

Cheers

Ugh - I figured I would have to do that. Build it, take it apart, repeat.

I plan to use POR15 chassis paint rather than powder coat, since it worked so well on the CB750. That'll make it easier to weld after paint, then reapply more POR15. That said, I know you're right. I need to build it up, then paint.

I worked out the radiator today too. It all fits in the nose, which took some work. I like the way it turned out in the end though. I have some room in front of the rad, and there is space behind the rad and in front of the engine, bit the rack and steering column (plus the coolant routing) takes up some of that space. I'm still thinking through how to intercool the intake charge.

Golden Industrial Supply. I used the part number listed in the Saturn material, UCFL.205.14. I'm sure any bearing supply house can get them for you, and it was pretty inexpensive too.

Only 4 times? You the man! I probably put each of my builds together and taken apart more than a dozen times. And that's not counting the times I put it together to figure something out.......

Those are very professional looking mounts for the radiator. Nice work.

Cheers,
