After 5 years of reading and planning I've finally taken the first step. I just bought an 85 Alfa Spider to use as a donor car. A builder in the area tacked together a spare 442 frame when he built his frame, so I plan on buying that. I will use as much Alfa stuff as I can. Rear axle will be Volvo. Planning on some mild mods to the Alfa engine, looking for 140-150 horsepower. Thanks in advance to Tom Suppa, who lives fairly close, he has the only Alfa based car I know of and has already been a big help, and will be a great local resource. The bad news is although my kind and understanding wife allowed me to buy the donor car, I can't start working on the Locost until my son's 61 Bugeye Sprite is running, so I figure fall or winter to start my build. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it! PS If anyone knows an Alfa guy in the NE/ Kansas/Iowa /MO area who needs a pretty good Alfa Spider body, the donor car is way too nice to send to the crusher.

Glad you're diving in! Having another builder you can talk to locally and watch them drive around should be an inspiration and also a big help!
