It was the 32nd annual "Allies vs Axis" autocross in honor of Pearl Harbor and we took up donations for the local homeless shelter. The Allies won again. Undefeated after 32 years! And we got a lot of "stuff" to send to the shelter. (Mostly toilet paper, like they asked for, as well as cash.)

Have the Allies actually won 32 years straight or have they "won" 32 years straight? What type of stuff shows up, E30, older M3s, or, in honor of Pearl Harbor, is it mostly Japanese cars, Civics, Supras, SX/ZXs, that sort of thing?

Depends on which side you ask! There have been some "creative" class bumps by both sides. (I once won B-Mod in an MGB. I was the only car in B-Mod.) Our man JK Jackson (of TR6 fame) used to recruit other TR owners for the event. We'd have a dozen Triumphs show up, run in various classes, and then go back to their garages. The other guys have done some of the same stuff with various Hondas, etc. Seems like one year the same Honda Civic was in EP, FP and D Mod with different drivers.

Mostly, it's a "just for fun" contest. The Axis guys know they're going to lose, and start hollerin' about our "fuzzy math" or oddball class bumps before any of it actually happens. It's all part of the event.

For whatever reason, we don't see many German cars any time, or for A-vs-A. There's one family that has two BMW's that race with us often (and very well, I might add!) and one or two more that showed up Sunday. We have some Subaru's, not as many as there used to be maybe 10 years ago, again, I don't know a reason. I remember two of 'em Sunday. Toyotas? Occasionally, not often. Hondas are the main "Axis" cars that take part. There's a strong local contingent of (mostly) younger guys that hot rod their Civics or CRXs and run with us.

The Allies are mostly American cars these days, since the TR group has kind of faded. We had lots of Mustangs, three or four Camaros, and a Corvette. And one, By-God-Made-In-America SLOTUS! Several Mustangs had two drivers as did two of the Camaros. One Mustang had three drivers, one of which was in some odd class or other.

But the Allies always win. We say, "Who are we to change history?"

I just stopped in to celebrate 300 pages.

Glad Slotus was happy at Allies vs Axis. I hope to see how many things I can break starting end of January with the A Mod.

Holy Shee-Ite! Who would have ever thought this would happen? I figured I'd get kicked out of here by now... Yeah, OK, maybe we discuss livestock and recipes and general nonsense more than car building in my log. But it is really great to feel like I have friends all over the place because of this forum.

Hey, maybe we can try to be at the same place at the same time! Where's the middle between us? How far are you from Carolina Motorsports Park near Kershaw SC? Or Jacksonville FL? (They autocross at Fernandina Beach) Or the nearest Donkey Rescue that does tours?

CMP is about 3 hours. Fernandina Beach is a haul at 7 hours. Was just a hop skip and a jump away when I was in Summerville.

Don't know about donkey rescue, but Summerville has Bee City.

300 pages! That's a lot of donkeys, goats and variations on a Slotus theme!
Thanks JD, for keeping humor alive while some of us are looking for a BerFH to correct our mistakes.

The kids love hanging out at my parents farm, but no donkeys. Used to have a Norwegian fjord horse though, that's a bit like a big donkey but quieter. And congrats on 300 pages!

Congrats JD, 300 pages, my my
I remember joining this group in Mar of 2011, you were on build page 24, and after reading your build log up to page 24 I said to myself, 'self, this guy really knows what he's doing, he's a master builder, perfectionist, fabricator", I'm sorry I can't can't go on , I now realize you're just like me

Yeah, you can't go on: Any good farm boy knows you can only pile donkey dung but just so high...

Hmm... I've heard of a Fjord Mustang and the Fjord Thunderbird but not a Fjord Horse. By the way, most of us spell that "Ford"...

And gentlemen, if I can be serious for a moment, I am really happy to count you as two of my friends, even if we've never shook hands or shared a meal. I'm grateful to this forum for allowing my mass of scribbling to exist for that reason, over and above the "build a car" thing. (Still working on that last part...)

"Fjord Mustang and the Fjord Thunderbird "

Very clever, JD. I loved it. You get the Pun of the Month award. Of course, you usually get that every month, so what's new, I guess?

Best,

Lonnie

"Fjord Horse"? That's just what us Norwegians call the SUV you all know as the "Bronco"!

It really IS almost Christmas now... I been playing with my wang out in the shop. Uhhh... Wait... I've been fabricating mounts for the wing and starting on the second element of the wing the last few days, in between Christmas shopping and other family stuff. I could hide the Slotus in the pile of Amazon boxes from all the toys TWWTFM has bought for the grand kids.

On top of Christmas, today is the twins - HamDip and Hand Grenade's- birthday. We're having a dinner for them tomorrow night because having it on their actual birthday would be too logical.

I see where BostonWill/Thom posted a pretty Holiday greetings card on his build log, which was a cool thing to do. I'm copying the concept, but making it more personal for Team Slotus.
Happy Holidays to all of you.
The Season's Upon Us!!!
