Well if the site get updated I'll just repost... again.
I plan to build a "go kart" based off of a 2003 Nissan Altima. Hence the title: "The Altimate Go-Kart" It will be neither a go-kart or ultimate anything but the play on words was ripe for the picking (and I really don't want to call it a "b#ggy" :puke: ). I've wanted to build a car for ever since I ran across the locost on the internet nearly 20 years ago. The last year or so I started planning in earnest. I saw what Kurt was doing with the Midlana and I liked it a lot, I bought the book and started planning the build. But I soon realized it was too big of a bite for me to chew so I scaled back my plans to this:
The Plan
175 HP 180 LB/FT torque 2.5 Nissan
Automatic transmission
Tube frame made from 1.5" .120 wall erw tubing.
Brakes: Donor
Steering: Donor

Here is the donor the day I drove it home. I bought it for $300.

The engine is set on the table for the first time and I finally get a feel for the size of this beast. So far it's looking tiny!

These are some pictures of a tubing bender I made. It works ok but not great. It's in the spirit of a JD2. I won't call it a copy because I had to guess all of the dimensions from an online photo. After having built this one I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money on a real bender. There is a huge amount of fab work involved. They are well worth the money.

I fabbed some rear lower control arm mounts. They are made from 1.5" round bar and manually machined on a mill and lathe.

A 1.5" .120 wall will be welded between the two mounts.

I bent the lower chassis rails to meet that tube at the rear of the chassis and then trimmed them down.
