Started playing around with a real race car build. Mostly for track days, but I am keeping an eye on the GCR as I model.
I have a 2012 BMW S1000RR on its way here for power. I plan to buy the body as that much fiberglass work would make me very unpopular with my basement workshop and attached garage...not to mention it would take as long as the whole car. I would rather a more modern design than the Prince shown here, but the price is not insane and Hurley is willing to sell just a body. Not cheap, mind you, but not insane. Besides, it really is one of the most pleasing to the eye designs. Body weighs 60 pounds
I will be adding to the design over the next few weeks...this is only a few hours into it.

Regarding the GCR, the soles of the driver's feet must be behind the front edge of the wheel rims when the pedals are in their normal position.

They will be. I have read section 9 a number of times and did not see this requirement though...probably looking in the wrong spot. In any case, its a good idea. Next time I post the chassis will be much further along.

I put together a chassis model in SolidWorks last night. Its parametric, so I will be able to easily modify it to fit any bodywork now. Have not done anything with the rear yet though and really cant until the engine shows up. Its a bit heavy so far....107 pounds, but with a .080 6061T6 floor it should be plenty stiff. I am thinking it will probably be around 160 or so with the rear tubes and full floor.I am thinking the next step is order a body. I have spoken to Stohr, Hurley Racing (Prince), and Small Fortune Racing (SR2). I am probably still leaning towards the Prince...mostly for cost reasons. I still have a budget for this thing!

The parts collection starts rolling along. Cut down the Cobalt hubs last night for Miata rotors (they are on the way). Cast iron is such a mess to turn.
I also have a 2 quart Accusump and axles to modify (cut to length, sleeve and weld).
Planning on Wilwood radial mount calipers, have not decided which ones yet.

I would suggest that you need to move your feet to behind the centerline of the front axle, This is a safety improvement made in the last 20-30 years. I think it is a requirement for any closed circuit wheel to wheel racing. The Prince Car, is based on a Van Dieman, they are becoming very inexpensive these days due to the obsolescense of the engine ford 200.

I am Using that Clark Lincoln body for my 2 seater Crossle Rebody, check it out!

I am absolutely going to have my feet set well back...dont get hung up on the early sketch. I did not lay the outline of the body over the second sketch for you guys, but I have already addressed this.
I wish the price of the Prince was a bit lower. I would pull the trigger on getting him laying glass right away. As it is, I am still hedging. I am going to work off the dimensions of the Prince in any case.

Bodywork is being molded as I write this. It should ship in 3 weeks. Its a Prince body with a sleeker engine cover.
My pile of parts is growing. Hopefully my recent job loss results in faster rather than slower progress.

Parts so far:
914 steering rack (center steer)
(2) 4 way adjustable Bitubo shocks
Modified Chevy Cobalt bolt on hubs
Miata disks
Wilwood 4 pot calipers
BMW S1000RR engine, no ECU
Accusump
Tilton master cylinder...left over from Seven, need a couple of more
oil cooler
OBX differential

Yes, it will have to be a MS3 to deal with the 60-2 crank sensor setup at 14,000 RPM. I will go with the 3.57 board and the MS3X expansion card. It should be more reliable in extreme environment and it gives me all the I/O I need without a bunch of mods. Dual VR sensors, 8 injectors, COP. Will go with full sequential.

Crate with bodywork is at my friends shop ready for pickup. Going to go get it tomorrow.
So excited. Next step after that is to get a pile of tubing delivered.

It works as either lawn art or dream machine for me. Who says it can't be both?
