Thank you guys. More of the story.
We sorted out the clutch problem a week ago Sunday. I drove around the block twice at about 35 mph and put it on the trailer! When I pulled up on the start line for the first time I was really nervous. What would it handle like what should I shift at etc etc . My first run was 77mph. Shifted at 4000, it fell on its face shifting into 5th, so dropped back to 4th. Next run shifted at 5500, fell on its face in 4th. Messed up third run with 2 bad shifts. The last run shifted at 6500, kept it in 3rd = 102mph. Had a total of 6 runs, the last being fastest. Did not adjust anything on the car, just the driver. I was just scared of high revving an engine with only 15 minutes prior run in. I got over that.
It has been a wonderful weekend. Lots of friends ripping on me to keep me in check, lots of warmth and friendship. The best. I did what I had hoped for. Got the car finished in time. It ran great. I set 2 records. I broke 100mph. Having a ball with the best friends I could wish for, priceless.
FTC.
Now I'm knackered, but still can't get this stupid grin off my face. At least the the swelling from the wind/sun burn has gone down!
Thank you for all the support and well wishes I have got from this place. Got more to do to get it ready for the street. I'll be back with more pictures of that, just not this week!
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Stewart.

Fantastic outcome, Stewart!

It was wonderful how your friends, family and students pitched in near the end. However, it was your grit and determination that made it happen. You had plenty of excuses to quit due to medical issues, (probably 98% of people in the world would have quit) but you didn't. So, as soon as you stop grinning, you are entitled to start slapping yourself on the back for a week or two.

Congratulations,

Lonnie

The cost of running Bonneville is too much for me. I would need a roadster style cage, much higher spec fire suit plus the traveling there and back. Wilmington was perfect for me. You get 5/8 mile to get up to speed. 130' through the timing traps. 3/8 mile to slow down.
Car ran straight, and wanted to rev. Bit of buffeting on my helmet a couple of runs from the cross/head wind. No shimmy or shakes. The only thing slowing it down was the driver! The engine sounded better after each run. It was just getting bedded in.
More run in time, carb tuning, a track nose, and a driver willing to shift at 6500 rpm will give it more speed I think. We will see. That was the last event at Wilmington. The ECTA is looking for a new place to run. We will have to see where they go.
I want to try my hand at auto crossing next :).
Cheers,
Stewart.

Congratulations, Stewart. Really well done.
As to your driver problem, it's easy. Fire him. He'll come back, asking for his job, promising to do better. Back in the days when I was racing, I had to regularly fire my mechanic, but he kept coming back. Now that I'm building, I have the same problem with my driver. It's hard to get good help.

Gregg Adams here from NC. I attended all ECTA and always took a boatload of pictures and also did the internet audio streaming of the meet.
Naturally, I was at the last meet in Wilmington doing my pictures and audio bits.
Here is the link to my picture post (with links to my Google Photos) and there are quite a few of Stewart's car.

Stewart, again congratulations on the records and REALLY nice meeting/chatting with you!

Yeah, no kidding... I've lost count of how many times I've fired Bubba...
